About this deal

The children will listen to and begin to join in with the story ‘Lost in the toy museum’ by David Lucas. Set in the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, East London, this magical book takes you through all of David Lucas' favourite toys in the collection.

I also love the illustrations by David Lucas, who was selected as one of The Big Picture campaign's Best New Illustrators in 2008. His most recent picture book is Attack of the Giant Baby, illustrated by Bruce Ingman - the only book he has written but not illustrated. These toys are all based on examples of toys found over the last 100 years and highlighted in the fabulous book “Lost in the Toy Museum” by David Lucas. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. This could also be a good way to introduce adjectives, where children could identify their favourite toy or character and describe them. You've probably heard of, or maybe even watched, the film Night At The Museum, starring (amongst others) Ben Stiller, Robin Williams and Dick Van Dyke, which told the story of a poor museum guard trying to keep control of a whole host of museum exhibits that come to life at night-time. I love the character of Bunting, the sensible and rather boring old toy cat, who lets his hair (or should that be fur ? One day Halibut Jackson receives an invitation from the Queen to a party at the palace and starts work on his most ambitious outfit yet, a bejewelled suit of silver and gold, which he thinks will go unnoticed amid the splendours of the palace. YOu ccould use the story for inspiration to create a Toy Fact File using one of the characters from this EYFS/KS1 picture book.

The children can make toys based on some of the characters in the book and help them recreate the stories and even build new ones. One night they decide to run away from the main character, who is not quite sure what is going on, as he think that all the toys have gotten lost. In 2008 he was chosen as one of BookTrust's Best New Illustrators, as part of their Big Picture initiative. Lost in the Toy Museum was written by David Lucas and instigated from the author's memories of visiting the 'Museum of Childhood' as a youngster in Bethnal Green, in East London.David Lucas is an extraordinary new talent in children's picture books - in 2008, he was named as one of The Big Picture campaign's Best New Illustrators. The roguery and playfulness of children is brought to the fore and the story is engaging as ignites one's inner-creativity and imagination. It could be used as a basis for many aspects of ks1 or 2 such as story telling ,use of alliteration ,Bethnal Green background and igniting children's imagination with hide and seek story . With the help of a series of notes, he finds them, and they reveal that they were playing Hide and Seek.

It would also be suitable for EAL students as the illustrations throughout are fantastic and would help bridge any gaps or misconceptions in the written text. The children will explore the box and make simple sentences to describe some of the toys inside the box. We take pride in offering a wide selection of used books, from classics to hidden gems, ensuring there is something for every literary palate.I think it is a very suitable book for primary school children in East London as it’s based on the author’s memories from Bethnal Green, that alone I would imagine would be of interest to children. It also is a good book to look at character development in literacy and what toy would a child pick to come to life and what would their personality be.

A nice PSHE circle time activity may be to bring in their favourite toy and share memories with the class. Seller has stated it will dispatch the item within 1 working day upon receipt of cleared payment - opens in a new window or tab . As a child he enjoyed drawing and writing, and he went on to study at St Martin’s School of Art and then the Royal College of Art.

I personally would use it as a topic book for whole class use, and perhaps be able to use it within guided reading for the lower ability groups to take a closer look and discuss it further. We have shared adjectives to describe a characters feelings as well as exploring different verbs to describe what the toys are doing.
