This edition of the book includes more than 80 hand-stitched illustrations, new typography, and textual changes that were developed thanks to the REDCAT productions. Starting with an odd assortment of marginalized youth -- musicians, tattoo artists, programmers, strippers, environmentalists, and adrenaline junkies -- the book eventually made its way into the hands of older generations, who not only found themselves in those strangely arranged pages but also discovered a way back into the lives of their estranged children. The novel also requires constant physical manipulation to read, whereas only certain sections of House of Leaves require readers to flip the book around. That summer, Poe and Danielewski spent three months as the opening act for Depeche Mode's 2001 North American tour.Danielewski has said that these experiences helped him appreciate creativity in all its forms and showed him that "there was much to be learned out there. House of Leaves is both vast and claustrophobic, crammed with minutiae (footnotes, appendices, poems and letters, and layout trickery) yet cored by a deep, absorbing emptiness, a deliberate void that accommodates, even incorporates, each character's—perhaps even each reader's—expectations, quirks, and fears. And the hallway did not just remain a hallway—it was growing rapidly, and there was a deep growl emanating from the darkness that was unlike anything he'd ever heard. But for readers willing to commit themselves to a skewed adventure, House of Leaves offers an experience of darkness, a walk into Nothing with a camera in our hands. Anyone who knows anything about how the Bible currently exists (in three distinct textual manifestations; as translations of translations of translations--and never mind the dozens of different currently-available translations; and as for the authorship of the original texts .

I don't want to take any credit for this, it's not my work, but I thought you people here would be very interested. When Johnny Truant attempts to organize the many fragments of a strange manuscript by a dead blind man, it gains possession of his very soul. Thrillingly alive, sublimely creepy, distressingly scary, breathtakingly intelligent -- it renders most other fiction meaningless. It is also an innovative and interesting book that can be enjoyed fully on its first reading but like say Gene Wolfe's work it can be reread to fully extract all the potential meanings and puzzles.I’m finishing up my current fiction novel (the devil rides out) and decided after all the hype I would try house of leaves. I got to the part with the passage from the POE album- the remix of "Hey Pretty", track 18, on pages 88-89. During this time he became involved with Derrida, a documentary about the career and philosophy of Algerian-born French literary critic and philosopher Jacques Derrida. That one with all the footnotes, they argued – no, not that one, the other one: Mark Danielewski's House of Leaves. THE MIND-BENDING CULT CLASSIC ABOUT A HOUSE THAT'S LARGER ON THE INSIDE THAN ON THE OUTSIDE A masterpiece of horror and an astonishingly immersive, maze-like reading experience that redefines the boundaries of a novel.
