About this deal

One of the biggest advantages of studying with the Minna no Nihongo series is that it covers such a wide range of topics. Although the overall structure is very similar for both series, one of the main differences for the textbooks is that the instructions are given in English for Genki while there is no English featured in the main textbook for Minna no Nihongo (the translation can be found in a separate workbook).

Daarentegen aan het eind van de rit is er als vanzelf de kennis van Jlpt op meer dan voldoende niveau. Back then I had no idea what I was doing and just picked up the most common suggestion I could find. D Man muss aber sagen, dass wir bevor wir mit dem Textbuch gelernt haben, Hiragana und Katakana und immer die passenden Vokabeln und Grammatik Seiten lernen mussten. I think Genki and MNN are roughly equivalent, and either one will serve you just fine, so I would choose whichever one has a style that you prefer. Through the task-based exercises (listening for necessary information in dialogues, interviews, reports, etc.Now back to the main topic, I’m sorry I went a bit off road here, as someone recommended I think I will study and finish the Genki series first and then move to the みんなの日本語 series, from what I’m being told みんなの日本語 is written entirely in Japanese so it might be better to study with it after first being used to Japanese grammar, at least that’s how I’m seeing it. Omdat beide series onder diverse benamingen voorkomen en diverse delen omvatten wordt het al snel verwarrend. Tho I can't use the CD because I have nothing to play it, it's super easy to find the MP3 on the web. I feel like it would be a lot of wasted time, and also a waste of money, since MNN is fairly expensive. So if you’re looking for a good Japanese language textbook series, be sure to check out Minna no Nihongo.

But I’m curious how the levels compare… How do the Minna no Nihongo books compare level-wise to the Genki books? Somehow I already have the Kanji workbook, but not the corresponding Kanji explanation book in English. If you’re having trouble understanding the material or doing the exercises, you can do a few things. I supplemented early on with a look through the Tae Kim sections on casual forms of verbs, since I knew that was what I would see/hear a lot of in culture I was likely to consume.

Zusätzlich hatten wir auch von dem einen Arbeitsheft Übungsblätter ausgedruckt bekommen und auch unsere “Kanjitests”. The books cover all the essential grammar points and vocabulary you need to know at each level, so they’re perfect for self-study or use in a classroom setting. l found resources like Human Japanese to be super enjoyable because it was all material I knew already and it made for excellent review at the same time. The structure of the textbook is fairly similar for both series: we follow the adventures of a foreigner learning Japanese in Japan. It's the question on every Japanese Language student's mind: what is the best Japanese language textbook for me? From the supplemental volumes, the ones I made more use of were the Hyojun Mondaishu (Basic Workbook) and the Chokai Tasuku 25 (Listening Comprehension Tasks). Are there any big differences between the two that can have an impact on your learning or are both of them relatively equal to one another?
