About this deal

There is no need to “incubate” grain at warm temperatures in the dark, since the mycelium will grow happily in normal room temperature conditions. Then take your mushroom culture (from your petri dish clones or homemade/purchased grain spawn) and place it closer to you.

We will keep you updated if there are any delays, however we cannot accept liability for any loss or inconvenience if failure to deliver within the estimated time frame. Another advantage of this method is that jars can be inoculated with a culture syringe by simply injecting directly through the pillow stuffing. Be sure your culture is clean/non-contaminated; if not, you may end up growing mold rather than mushrooms. This is done by performing a grain to grain transfer, were first generation grain spawn is added to additional sterile grain in a ratio between 1:10 and 1:20.I don’t use filter discs for the most part- i prefer to use poly stuffing that is pulled through a 1/4″ hole. first of all, the grain contains tons of nutrition that is important for fruiting- kind of acts like supplementation. You need a good quality pressure canner that can reach at least 15 psi and is large enough to fit your grain jars.

I also like to place the lid on the jar upside down, meaning the metal side is against the glass and the rubber seal is facing up.

Some people do just use one port, using polyfil, and just inject straight through that with a needle. You can solve this by making sure you have enough volume of water in your pressure cooker to maintain consistent levels of heat as the cooker cools. You could definitely use the same method for 125 ml mason jar “petri dishes” just make sure you use a proper lid, not foil. Dip your finger in water and soap and work the silicone in a circular motion until the hole is sealed up. Crafted with utmost care and precision, e ach piece is fashioned from glass to ensure an aesthetic appeal that stands the test of time.

Finally, I heard of using wild spore print via a sandwich of agar to purify it, but isn’t the agar pouring temperature way to high to mix in spores, and if not, would you care to detail how ? I prefer the ‘pro’ lids because they require less maintenance as every now and then you need to replace the polyfill or re-set the ports, the epoxy makes these lids pretty permanent.

Slice 1-2 small pieces from your petri dish (see photo below; you can inoculate several jars with one petri dish of mycelium) using a sterile scalpel. Both achieve the same objective, however the professional one looks better and has a slightly lower risk of contamination as the polyfill air filter can induce ‘Wicking’ where the mycelium can make contact with the air filter and any contaminants that are caught in the filter. You will use some empty jars, tinfoil, hot glue, white air-dry clay (the one that mentains its size when dry) and watercolors. Apply another layer of clay to create textures and details like door handles, roof chimney, stones or any detail that might give your fairy house a unique look.
