Composition of the new fragrance ENCRE NOIRE A L'EXTREME is announced as very masculine, intensive, powerful. The damp, fresh and woody smell from those newly chopped trees and branches, also some tiny hints of the exhaust smell from the Chainsaw.The dry-down is very floral, almost very feminine, it brought to mind old lady's perfume mixed with the scent of sweat.

Both incarnations of the fragrance have bucketfuls of atmosphere, especially for mainstream offerings. As I mentioned, I Wear Encre Noire a lot in the winter, but I’ve recently worn it a lot less, getting used to other scents for spring time and (hopefully) warmer weather. Initially it smells bitter yet Smokey almost like you’ve thrown a ton of leaves on a bonfire, it then becomes slightly peppery with that same leafy bonfire smell, after a couple hours it dries down to a Smokey sandalwood. Probably not the first thing you should get, but if you’re a bit bored of your usual dna, this is a pretty great thing to expand your horizon with.I think that encapsulates A l'Extreme's uses: as a novelty which effortlessly evokes the image of death and decay. Smells like a tinctured pirate's walking plank or treasure chest for a short period before completely disappearing into the ether. Unlike Sycomore however, which could be worn year round, I'd only wear this for fall and winter because of how heavy it is. Note: it does not smell anything like Sauvage; I’m simply saying that for me Encre Noire A L’Extreme has similar versatility and captivating room presence to Sauvage.
