If you’re more of a fan of the Rekordbox software offered by Pioneer DJ, you’re not limited to Serato either. Finally, Shift + Deck select buttons scrolls through showing the Record, FX, and SP-6 sampler sections of Serato DJ. The DDJ-SP1 comes with access to Serato Pro, so you can easily unlock features like Beat Jump, Quantize, and Slip mode.Users are then able to access the pre-mapped buttons and dials to activate the software’s 8 hot cues, 6 samples and 30+ FX Powered by iZotope all without having to access a keyboard or mouse. Accurate loops, scratches and reverses can be made through the use of Slip Mode when a DJ controller or CD player is connected.

The encoder scrolls through your folder tree on the left or the main track browser, and pushing the encoder or the Back button beneath it toggles between the two areas. As mentioned above, the Pioneer DDJ-SP1 from Pioneer isn’t a standalone controller, but it can add a lot of value to your existing setup. Add in full control of Serato DJ’s effects deck, a Serato Video license, and Serato Video control, and this is a hands-down sound piece of gear. Because Serato’s sticking with the model of working with approved controllers only, you can’t use a controller of your choice to do the potentially minimal mixer and transport functions that help complete the DDJ-SP1. The DDJ-SP1 works alongside the rest of your musical setup, rather than being a standalone controller or mixer.One slight difference here is that your machine will alter the volume of your samples according to the strength of your tap in velocity mode. As well as the wide range of hands-on controls, the SP1 also includes 30 premium-grade FX curated by iZotope. Pressing the pads plays the slices in looped fashion until you release the pad and playback resumes.

A single fader knob in the middle controls the volume, three knobs on both sides for controlling FX parameters and a BPM jogwheel make up the main controls of the DDJ-SP1.Pioneer’s DDJ-SP1 also maintains the same strong and reliable build as the larger Pioneer products on the market.
