About this deal
Costanza Casati's absorbing novel, Clytemnestra, transports the reader to a world, familiar through classic literature, that rewards brutality yet honors beauty, that trains women to be warriors then uses them as pawns, and where honor is paramount .
But when her husband casts his ruthless gaze towards the wealthy citadel of Troy, his ambitions threaten, once more, to destroy the family Clytemnestra loves. Bold and elegant, this novel deconstructs Clytemnestra's infamy and then, with tremendous empathy and wisdom, reconstructs her into an enthrallingly complex figure filled with passion and spirit. I had the immense privilege to read this novel in advance… 5 stars is not enough to describe how much I loved it!As she challenges the views and rules of the era, she refuses to be an inert object of fate or the gods, confronting prejudices and labels forced on her by a patriarchal society.
I will recommend this book to anyone who loves history, myths or simply a well-written and absorbing story. It's interesting to read more about her, and get the picture of a much more complex and powerful woman (Melissa U). Clytemnestra, Queen of Mycenae, is often regarded as one of Greek mythology’s greatest villains because she killed the husband that murdered two of her children. If her message is cryptic in that moment, it becomes increasingly clear as the two princesses grow older and face one betrayal after another. A daring and timely feminist retelling of The Illiad from the perspective of the women of Troy who endured it--an extraordinary follow up to The Silence of the Girls from the Booker Prize-winning author of The Regeneration Trilogy.
