About this deal

Furious that he must suffer indignities such as attending school and doing chores, Loki struggles to be good. After playing one trick too many, Loki, Norse god of mischief, is sent by Odin to live on earth as an 11-year-old boy. packed with jokes and funny illustrations, this second book about Loki’s adventures is just as funny as the first. Loki is the series protagonist - the most chaotic god of Norse mythology, who has been banished to live on earth as a normal child who also has to go to school. My son and I read it together over the course of several nights before bed and it offered the level of humor and wit that we both look for in books.

As he records his lies THE TRUTH in his magical (judgemental) diary, it becomes clear Loki hasn’t a clue how to tell good from evil, trust from tricks, or friends from enemies. Loki might not have shown any moral improvement (yet) but Odin has given him another chance to prove himself worthy of A.Despite his contemptuous attitude towards mortal beings, readers will be rooting for him to make the right choices, as he learns about guilt, loyalty and friendship. When Danny accidentally summons a feisty green fairy, he does everything he can to send her back to Fairyland before she causes too much havoc.

The tone of the book is fantastic and it reads smoothly, peppers with hilarious illustrations that clarify key moments within the tale.

My 10 year old generally prefers audio books to actual reading, but he's devoured the hard copy of this story and is excited to see the next in the series. At the end of the book my class gave a spontaneous round of applause which they've never done before! When Heimdall and Hyrrokkin abandon their "children" to go on holiday, Odin sends Baldur – Thor's half brother and god of making Loki look bad – to babysit.

It’s a perfect middle grade book, full of laughter and lessons that slip in when you least expect them. I didn't know I wanted to read about Loki as a disgraced god forced into an Adrian-Mole-esque existence, but it turns out I do! After the drama teacher casts him as the villain in the school play, Loki starts to wonder whether there’s any point in being good when everyone seems convinced of his villainy. For any kid transfixed by Norse mythology […] it’s silly, full of cheeky jokes and mischief, and peopled by believable, fallible characters who just happen to be gods.
