It was in 2004 that Ilegal Mezcal's founder John Rexer began bringing unbranded mezcal from a variety of villages in Oaxaca to Antigua to supply his bar, Cafe No Se. This artisan spirit is created by brothers and fourth-generation mezcaleros Armando and Alvaro Hernandez.

Crafted from Espadin agave, Reposado is “rested” for up to four months in ex bourbon barrels before bottling. Fresh herbal mint, dried oregano and thyme aromas meet a balanced and elegant liquid that offers harmonious hints of tamarind, pomegranate, banana and mango. If you are not able to be at home to receive your mezcal during normal business hours, we recommend having it shipped to your place of work, or opting to have your shipment held at the nearest FedEx or UPS pick-up location. Ilegal Mezcal was founded by John Rexer, who began smuggling this product to his Bar, Cafe No Se, in Antigua, Guatemala. In late 2009, Ilegal Mezcal became legal and today is available in the USA, Australia, Europe and the Caribbean.

This is an exceptional mezcal up there with quality bourbons n single malts my best friend lives in Guatemala and knows the American owner so u could say im biased but this is wrong. Ilegal Mezcal is an artisanal mezcal made in Oaxaca in Mexico, employing very traditional methods including the use of the a stone Tahona to crush the agave, which has been cooked in an earthen pit, giving it a strong smokiness. One of the premium offerings from the famous Patron tequila distillery, Gran Patron Platinum uses the finest blue agave grown in the highlands of Jalisco.

Handcrafted in small batches by fourth-generation mezcaleros, our Joven, Reposado, and Añejo mezcals are all made with perfectly ripe, sustainable Espadín agave, double distilled in the Santiago Matatlan Valley of Oaxaca, Mexico.
