About this deal

The Logitech G512 Special Edition and the HyperX Alloy Origins are two wired-only keyboards that perform somewhat similarly. Use the FN toggle feature in Logitech G HUB and configure your function keys to perform these alt commands by default.

The Razer Huntsman and the Logitech G512 Special Edition are fairly similar, but the Razer performs slightly better for gaming. I have not found a way to sync the lighting effects between my G512 and G302 in the Logitech software, they have to be done separately, which is a bummer since I like the breathing effect. I also like the colorful BleepBoop effect and the Matrix-esque Datafall effect that defaults, of course, to green. I may update this review after I play a few games on it, but I can't imagine that would tarnish how I already feel about it.All of its keys are macro-programmable, while the Logitech only lets you set macros to function keys. The additional, dedicated USB cable connects the USB passthrough port to its own input for full power throughput and data speed. We encourage readers interested in this product to purchase under warranty directly from Logitech or an approved reseller and to contact Logitech support in case of any issues. I enjoyed the many different color effects it offers, but gamers will likely find the Zones the most useful, where you can customize different zones on the keyboard, from the WASD and arrow keys to function and modifier keys. Plus, I’d recommend typing on the G512 in only the most private of places; as enjoyable as the loud clack of the keys is for gaming, it’s sure to annoying anyone within earshot if you spend any amount of time banging away on it.

Its solid build quality, trio of mechanical switch options, and customizable RGB lighting give you a champagne keyboard on a beer budget. Box Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (registration number 726076) as a credit intermediary and not a lender, offering credit products provided by PayPal Credit. Both options use Logitech proprietary switches; the G512 is available with different GX switches, while the G513 uses Romer-G switches. Your transactions and personal data will be held in a PCIDSS accredited system using secure encryption technologies. The rigidity of 5052 alloy also provides a sturdy, non-slip chassis that houses a full suite of features for an unbeatable gaming experience. MECHANICAL SWITCHES: GX Brown is a traditional mechanical switch providing discernible actuation for gamers who prefer direct tactile feedback. There weren't any software issues during testing, but many users online have reported various problems trying to use the Logitech G HUB software, including but not limited to startup issues, freezing, and connection issues with some devices. The keyboard’s row of function keys double as media controls and let you change the keyboard’s lighting effects. The keyboard provides a light typing experience that shouldn't cause any fatigue, and the switches are rated to last for a long time.

Two wide, sturdy feet (with rubber feet of their own) let you raise the back edge of the keyboard for a different typing angle. USB Passthrough: The additional, dedicated USB cable connects the USB passthrough port to its own input for 100% power throughput and data speed. The Logitech G512 Special Edition is an excellent mechanical gaming keyboard that features proprietary switches that are similar to Cherry MX Blues.Note: We didn't experience any issues with this keyboard's backlighting during testing, but we've received community feedback indicating that the Blue LED lights on this keyboard may tend to fail sooner than other colors. Downloading the LG 's software was a breeze - installing it was impossible , l finally gave up and resorted on using the FN key with F7 . The keyboard requires you to occupy not one but two USB ports on your PC due to the USB passthrough. The G512 Carbon has a thick braided cable that protrudes not from the middle of the keyboard but over on the right side near the USB port; it’s a smart choice because it makes it easier for the cable to pass around your monitor stand. The keys are very stable, with no signs of rattling, and they're well-spaced, which is good for typing accuracy.

You'll need to get a wrist rest, though, and some keys may not function properly if you work on macOS. It's a wired-only keyboard, and the included cable might not be long enough to reach your computer from the couch. The full RGB backlight is great for dark room gaming or to highlight important keys, and the function keys can all be reprogrammed with macros, though MMO players may find the lack of dedicated macro keys a bit disappointing. This may be because blue LEDs require more voltage than red or green, and this is a known problem that isn't unique to this particular keyboard or the Romer-G switches it uses. It’s just looks better when the secondary functions are illuminated, and it can also makes it a lot easier to use them when gaming in the dark. This keyboard has full RGB backlighting, and each key can be individually customized with Logitech's G HUB software.
