Thank you Anna Kent for writing your story and making us aware that we are a long way from getting status for women around the world. Being an aid worker doesn’t just change and affect Anna’s work life and career path it also changes her personal relationships and her whole life path.

It’s empowering and refreshing to read an account about birth written by a woman, a mother and a midwife. Its one of those books you feel immensley grateful was written - big shout outs to her and her support system for bringing this book to press.Far from presenting herself as a ‘white saviour’ figure, the author is often paralysed by fear, and ever cautious of crossing the line from healthcare worker to moral redeemer. The author really bears her soul, and I imagine that writing this book must be quite must’ve been quite cathartic .

This book distils the relationship between patient safety, professional accountability and emotional capacity to its very essence. This time she has aspirations to set up a birth centre, but she will need the co-operation of the traditions birth assistants to even get the women to enter the birth centre, let alone use it. This is not to say that she shies away from the political contexts of the places she works; reading the book has given me a harrowing introduction to several ongoing global tragedies.
