That means spring clips for speaker cable, a switch for the integrated phono stage (in case you want to make use of the C62’s RCA outputs to connect the deck to an external amp or powered speakers) and a power on/off switch. Yes, all the corners of all the speakers and the turntable are pointy, but everything is screwed, glued or otherwise fitted together well, and the walnut laminate wrap is confidently applied. Created with an eye for interior design the (ready to go, straight out of the box) C62 record player and speakers have a veneer finish and a matt black aluminium tonearm with counter weight.The super minimal, two-knob design makes it easy to switch speeds, crank up the volume and switch to the built-in Bluetooth receiver if you want to stream music from your favourite digital playlist. The soundstage the Crosley creates is confined, vague and not especially easy to follow - it’s the audio equivalent of driving through fog. Editorial independence means being able to give an unbiased verdict about a product or company, with the avoidance of conflicts of interest. Sandwiched in between all this unhappiness, the midrange is equally undemonstrative and equally lacking in powers of communication.

The matching MDF speakers look just as good as the turntable and each rock a mid-range speaker and tweeter. The sonic characteristics already described are all still evident, however – and they’re joined by the C62’s tendency to clip the first fraction of a second from the digital file it’s playing. None of the C62’s other unwelcome sonic characteristics are mitigated, though, and for some reason the way the system goes about receiving wireless information means that the first few milliseconds of songs are missed.Spending this much money was no easy decision, and to be told that crosley expects me to upgrade to a new unit just three years after purchase is totally unacceptable and predatory.
