About this deal

Like some other Olympus lenses, it’s possible to manually focus by freely turning the ring, or by pulling it back to reveal focus distance markings with physical limits to each end of the range. This is particularly true for Olympus users, who can always employ the camera’s in-body image stabilisation. His leading leg is probably a mere couple of feet from the camera, but even the small difference between it and his trailing leg shows how much a difference a foot or two can make (I can confirm that both of his legs are relatively equal in length).

PRO that it suffered a little more than most when it came to chromatic aberration when you shoot toward a light source. Turning the ring engages whichever focus aid you’ve selected on the camera body, either magnified view or peaking. So while the lack of in-lens image stabilisation is a non-issue for Olympus camera owners, other manufacturers who don't offer in-camera image stabilisation, like Panansonic (except for the DMC-GX7) may want to consider a different lens. It provides a wider angle while maintaining resolution and providing a slightly more realistic perspective as opposed to an ultra wide angle of view captured with a wider focal length.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. If you're geeky enough to understand field curvature and what to do, or you're shooting things where the extreme corners aren't all that important, I think you're going to love this lens. This allows you to shoot at half the sensitivity or double the shutter speed under the same lighting conditions.

is inevitably larger, heavier and more expensive than the Lumix G 7-14mm, but it represents a step-up in all respects while also avoiding the purple flares that could plague the Lumix on some bodies.

Not the chewy, chocolatey kind sadly but these cookies are useful to help show you relevant content. The Lumix G 7-14mm can feel a little plasticky in comparison and certainly doesn’t feature weather-sealing, although again it is smaller and considerably lighter, not to mention cheaper too. In the second and third examples I’m positioned a little further away, but still focused on the foreground subject, allowing the background to blue a little as a consequence with the aperture set to f2.
