About this deal

This is another story song, but of a hot young girl that skates around the city listening and bobbing to music on her headphones engrossed in the fantasies of the songs and oblivious to the world. With the E-street band's Roy Bittan joining on keyboards the band began to move away from the simple bluesy rock of the first 2 albums.

Their music was becoming more complex and so was Mark Knopfler's songwriting: 4 of the album's 7 tracks are running over 5 minutes. Mastered from analog tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP set of Making Movies breathes with reference-caliber airiness, spaciousness, dynamics, and separation. With new group members Alan Clark and Hal Lindes on board, Dire Straits embarked on tours of Europe, North America, and Oceania [6] from October 1980 until July 1981 to promote the album. Expansive and cinematic, the aptly titled Making Movies puts a premium on interrelated subjects (love, relationships, heartbreak) and deep-seated emotions that play out in heartfelt lyrics, intense singing, and epic frameworks. Then the album takes a noticeable decline in quality, which is extremely noticeable but those songs still suffice. He seems to be putting Roy Bittan's piano playing in the spotlight instead of his own guitar on most of the other tracks. Skateaway" is another brilliant song, the only song on which Knopfler really shows us what a great guitar player he is. The album sessions continued with Sid McGinnis on rhythm guitar, although he was uncredited on the album.

Twisting by the Pool" was released on the ExtendedancEPlay EP on 10 January 1983 and reached the UK Top 20 when released as a single.Making Movies is the third studio album by British rock band Dire Straits, released on 17 October 1980 by Vertigo Records internationally, Warner Bros.

Four songs were recorded during the sessions but not released on the album: "Making Movies," "Suicide Towers," " Twisting by the Pool" and "Sucker for Punishment.David appears on video playing "Solid Rock" and "Les Boys" live in concert, but these performances preceded the recording.

The romanticism of Bittan's piano, precision timekeeping of drummer Pick Withers, and steady roll of bassist John Illsley come across with similar potency, scale, and verve. Side two of the vinyl disc is a bit of a letdown following three strong tracks but the instrumentation does make up for that shortcoming. It’s not a Mofi 45 or UHQR but it’s as good or better than the 33 ⅓ versions that come from those efforts.
