I loved the slow build up in this plot and it is testament to the quality of Lynda la Plante’s writing that my attention was held throughout the book as we, along with Jane, try to work out exactly what crime has been committed. If you haven’t started with ‘Tennison’, I’d really suggest you start there so you can enjoy Jane Tennison’s development as a character – it’s a journey you won’t want to miss.Justin Chalmers and his sister Laura are about to uncover the sinister depths to which revenge can descend when exacted by a man who has lost everything. It has also been fun to see the ways in which policing has developed throughout this series and we even had the mention of DNA here, something that would not have been heard of in previous books. That being said she has witnessed some dubious decisions by her superiors in the past so I can understand her need to ensure that every avenue has been checked and that the right person is being charged. The fifth book in the Tennison series following Jane Tennison in the early years of her policing career.
