It is still okay for a family of 5 though, and of course, the space on offer is more than generous for any group less of 4.

The reliably waterproof flysheet and fully sewn-in groundsheet make sure the interior is dry, draught-free-and bug-free. Big, clear windows, so plenty of light, the black out bedrooms are pretty good and the securing straps did a good job of keeping it sturdy. In the main living area we placed our roof box to one side to use for clothes/valuables storage (as it was lockable) and meant that it we didn;t take space up in the bedroom with clothes bags/luggage. This version has very light carbon fibre rods though we had some trouble sorting them out since the inner retaining bungee cords had slipped out completely on two rods sets.

There is a good space between the inner sleeping quarters compartment and the outer, so I am assuming less chance of condensation from touching surfaces. The Classic Air and Classic Instant tents are the ideal companion for those looking for a combination of great value, convenient pitching and Vango quality!

Overall we have been very happy with this tent and are considering on purchasing a Air beam one just so I can go camping for the weekend on my own with our child (6yrs old) without the struggle of trying to get a poled tent up alone. If you haven’t made up your mind yet, it may be worth considering the Coleman Mosedale 5 with similarly good weather protection, although it is a bit more pricy than the Icarus 500. We've used it for long weekends over the summer every year since we bought it and in all that time, I've only had to replace one pole and make a minor repair to the inner.We've had ours since 2012 and it caters for my wife and I, along with our three children with considerable ease. Just back from a very wet week in Cornwall and only a few drips of rain in living area, because front guy rope came out overnight. I feel that the front flap should have a zip so it could be lowered for access or raised for bad weather. We used it every year in Ireland and for the last 3 years it also served us well on our trips to France. It is easy to pitch, comfortable and spacious, making it suitable for beginners and occasional campers.

I thought that was a really strange thing to complain about when I read about it before purchase but it's actually quite annoying. It fits onto the front of the Vango Icarus 500 DLX, adding an extra 10 square metres to the already spacious living space, increasing the overall size to above 15 square metres.The breathable inner fabric allows for condensation to pass through, ensuring that you stay dry and comfy.
