About this deal

As for the hardware itself, the Nest Wifi Router and Nest Wifi Point each feature a simplistic, inoffensive design that's built to blend into your home without needing to be hidden out of sight, where they won't perform as well. Aside from looking good, the Nest Wifi also offers features you won’t find on a typical router, such as built-in Google Assistant functionality on its extension units. Its major differences are the four far-field microphones on top and the 360-degree speaker with 40mm driver inside, bedecked by a single, round LED on the undercarriage that responds when asked questions via your voice.

This option doesn't take advantage of the improved range and speed of the Nest Wifi router, but it allows you to keep your current Wi-Fi network settings and custom schedules. Since wireless regulations vary by country, you might experience compatibility issues if you move your Wifi device(s) to a different country, and Google will be unable to offer support. That said, average US household connections are at or under 100Mbps, so I don’t think this will be an issue for most. However, it does introduce the grim possibility of somebody else doing exactly the same, without you ever knowing. Fortunately, this system is idiot-proof -- and not just when it comes to sudden, spontaneous drop tests.Nest Wifi blankets your whole home in fast, reliable Wi‑Fi and keeps buffering at bay in every room. Setting up the Nest Wifi router and Point took me under 15 minutes, including a few software updates it had to apply. Comparatively, the Nest Wifi performed marginally faster than the original model at 5GHz in the Ookla Speed Test, and just a quickly in our file download test.

Most Matter devices can be set up in just a few taps, and Matter's local connectivity makes your devices more responsive, reliable and secure. While Google’s Point bundles come with a white model, Google wants its Points to blend into your decor, so it also offers pale blue or pale pink options. On their own, none of the system's routers were able to muster speeds much faster than 50Mbps or so back there, and my home has a 300Mbps fiber internet connection. If you need access to functions like port forwarding or some such, you better go for a more traditional model from the likes of Linksys or Netgear. You have to make sure they're close enough to connect to your router and also extend into whatever blackspot you're trying to fill.
