Hear whispers in the dining car, find notes in the library and unknown passengers among the luggage, as you help Harrison solve the mystery aboard one of the world’s grandest trains. Sam Sedgman is a novelist, playwright and award-winning digital producer. His work has been performed internationally and shorltisted for the Courtyard Theatre award. Written with his friend, M.G. Leonard, The Highland Falcon Thief is Sam's first book for children. He lives in London and is a lifelong train and mystery enthusiast. Telegraph A pacey and intensely satisfying mystery, boasting a sparkling golden age crime fiction sensibility despite its contemporary setting In the third mysterious tale of Eerie-on-Sea, it's almost Ghastly Night, and the Shadowghast—an ancient spirit in a lantern—lurks in wait for the power to enslave the town. Author Luke Palmer introduces his new book, Play (Firefly Press) about four boys growing up together, the challenges, the friendships, and what hap...Education Shed Ltd, Severn House, Severn Bridge, Riverside North, Bewdley, Worcestershire, UK, DY12 1AB Btw. I knew what was up with the Red Herring from the outset, and with who. I knew who had done it from almost the beginning and I knew the diamond was being stolen as that scene was playing out. I get it's a kids book and I'm unnaturally canny with a mystery, but I read other kids mysteries that don't project the whole entire solution like this. First stop is The Highland Falcon Thief, a breathless train journey full of deceptions, puzzles and clues to solve. They also help explain some of the more technical train ‘stuff’ allowing us to find out more and understand enough to follow parts of the plot that rely on the train and its workings without becoming bogged down. This is also true of the way the driver and fireman, Mohanjit and Joey, tell Hal about what they’re doing and how things work. This book has clearly been carefully researched and, although I didn’t think of myself as being remotely interested in trains, like Hal I couldn’t help but be interested and impressed as I found out more! Published 30 January 2020, The Highland Falcon Thief is a breathless train journey full of deceptions, puzzles and clues to solve.

I finished the book thinking, if I ever wondered if you could take a Watson/Hastings character and successfully blend them with a Mary Sue/Damsel in Distress trope now I know you can. Not that I'd ever wondered that. Or wanted that. I feel like the useless "partner" who just follows the detective around for narration purposes is a trope we've long outgrown and I'm confused why it was put into this book. What was Lenny's purpose? Train things? The story either needed Lenny to be a more involved detective (which would have matched her personality better) or leave her out. A high-speed train journey worth catching . . .The best yet' – The Times on Murder on the Safari Star A great book to read aloud super vocabulary and lots to talk about - a new baby, going on an adventure without Mum and Dad. For the first time in the 11-14+ category the judges felt compelled to award Joint winners. Both Run Rebelby Manjeet Mann (Penguin) and The Last Paper Craneby Kerry Drewery (Hot Key) were considered so exceptional that both deserved the highest accolade. The extraordinary verse novel, Run Rebel, by debut British author Manjeet Mann, was praised for its complex representation, universal themes, and visceral emotional impact. The powerful Hiroshima survivor story, The Last Paper Craneby Kerry Drewery was praised for its sensitive and compassionate handling of history, the enriching discussion that it provoked and for the fact that it was so cleverly constructed with the use of different text formats and withthe illustration by Natsuo Seki enriching the emotional impact.Way out in the furthest part of the known world, a tiny stronghold exists all on its own, cut off from the rest of human-kin by monsters that lurk beneath the Snow Sea. Firstly, this book feels like a love song to all the train lovers. I do not like trains but you can tell from reading this book that the author truly loves trains, passionately. By the end of this book, even I fell in love with trains just by reading this book. 😂 Este un drum de 4 zile, o călătorie pâna in Scoția si înapoi, cu un tren regal cu abur, un drum de onoare a celui mai luxos tren care existase vreodată, și care urma să se retragă, să fie expus în muzeu

The Adventures on Trains series is published in the UK and US by Macmillan, and is licensed to more than ten countries around the world, including the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Latin America, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Spain and Sweden. Then Hal spots her. A girl that shouldn't be there; a stowaway. Who is she and what is she doing here? I also liked that it was a robbery rather than a murder, allowing children (or parents!) who aren’t keen on that aspect of the genre can still enjoy solving a crime. I also really liked the use of Hal’s sketchbooks, which served not only to illustrate the book beautifully (with a little help from Elisa Paganelli!) but also as an aid to the solving of the crime itself – so many of the leads and clues they end up following come thanks to Hal’s documentation of the journey. My only qualm with this book was the fatphobia aimed towards one character that I was incredibly disappointed by. It was (as all fatphobia is) utterly unnecessary, dated and frustrating. The Highland Falcon Thief is the first book in a brand new series - Adventures on Trains. I do like trains, and I like mysteries, and I like mysteries set on trains, so already I knew I was going to have fun with this one. And reader, I had so much fun!
