About this deal

Live and Let Die was adapted as a daily comic strip which was published in The Daily Express and syndicated around the world.

As Tee-Hee forcefully escorts Bond to the top of a staircase in the warehouse, Bond manages to break free and kicks him down the stairs. Bond and Solitaire are saved when the limpet mine explodes seconds before they are dragged over the reef: though temporarily stunned by the explosion and injured on the coral, they are protected from the explosion by the reef and Bond watches as Mr Big, who survived the explosion, is killed by the sharks and barracuda. First impression, first issue of the 2nd James Bond novel, a lovely copy in the rare first-state dust jacket. This includes the description of Mr Big's death by shark attack, in which Bond watches as "Half of The Big Man's left arm came out of the water. Bond then investigates the warehouse himself and discovers that Mr Big is smuggling gold coins by hiding them in the bottom of fish tanks holding poisonous tropical fish, which he is bringing into the US.First Edition, First Printing: of LIVE AND LET DIE with a beautiful clean book and a stunning Near Fine First edition, First Printing/Second state dust jacket.

The term ‘Negro’ is the most common use of description for any person with black skin, and even the other ‘N’ word slips in once or twice. Not much else is revealed in the opening chapter, but we have already been introduced to a warmer, more approachable James Bond than we saw in Casino Royale. Bond is interrogated by Mr Big, who uses his fortune-telling employee, Solitaire (so named because she excludes men from her life), to determine if Bond is telling the truth. The novel addresses the threat posed to both Britain and the United States in the form of the villainous Mr. He describes Moneypenny here as ‘all powerful’ and in the first three Bond books he has two female spy characters. In doing so, they followed the same train route Fleming had taken with his friend Ivar Bryce in July 1943, when Fleming had first visited the island. After investigating all the background information on the case they can find, Bond and Felix Leiter, as his CIA liaison, are to go down to St.

No inscriptions, contents clean, edges slightly toned, gilt still bright (often tarnished), jacket lightly worn with one tear and associated crease to upper. Live and Let Die was published in hardback by Jonathan Cape on 5 April 1954 [59] and, as with Casino Royale, Fleming designed the cover, which again featured the title lettering prominently. In New York, he and close friend Ernest Cuneo spent an evening with two police officers patrolling nightclubs in Harlem before embarking on an express train known as the Silver Meteor for St. The back of the dust jacket includes a blurb for Casino Royale, there is light toning to the inside edges. There, Bond meets the beautiful Solitaire, who is asked to find out if Bond's bogus reasons of being in Harlem were true.

A very handsome, clean example of this scarce title and perfect for the Fleming collector who is looking for a beautiful first edition, first impression of Live And Let Die with an original striking first edition, second state dust jacket! First off - any critics who can't see past the dated racial terminology in this book are missing an (admittedly cumbersome) attempt at a progressive breakthrough. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Perhaps though, it must also be consider a historical document a snap shot of a time, portrayed in popular fiction, showing how things have changed, from not just the story but in the way the story is told, down to the diction and attitude. Although Fleming had initially intended to kill Leiter off in the story, his American literary agent protested, and the character was saved.Live and Let Die was the first of many James Bond adventures to be set in the author's beloved Caribbean.
