To my utter delight, Deviant King, or rather the Royal Elite book series, hit that sweet spot and more. Aiden and Elsa have crazy chemistry – every encounter of theirs, Aiden pushes her to the extreme, some derailing into dubious scenes. Finding that sweet spot (pun intended) where we can still enjoy our darker, more villainous hero and scenes that skirt beyond the bounds of “normal”, all while not hating the characters or feeling entirely uncomfortable with certain actions and situations, is incredibly difficult. I did rate this 5 stars the first time I read it but I just didn’t get the 5 stars feel like last time.

Many of the books I’ve read felt fickle – like the guy bullies the girl for the heck of it, no tangible reasons. Despite everything we tried to do to help my little dude fight, the cancer was just more aggressive than we could treat.

If it wasn’t for Elsa’s Aunt and Uncle who saved her life with a major heart surgery, Elsa would be dead. By the end of the book, I actually lost count of how many times she randomly bumps into people and says, OW!

I'm looking forward to seeing how they overcome their challenges and barriers to achieve their HEA (I hope they do!

He doesn’t outright bully her, but he also doesn’t do anything about it and since one word from him to the other students would stop it, she blames him for starting it and letting it go on.

In conclusion, Deviant King is a dark and addictive tale that pushes boundaries and challenges conventions. Anyway, back to this book, I should have heeded Hala’s warning when she said I shouldn’t have picked this book. You want to know what’s going to happen next, and you can’t help but salivate over Aiden’s darkness and Elsa’s strength to try to push him away.If you are riding the wave of Bully or Dark High School Romance, you will enjoy the hell out of this book. It left me craving more, desperate to dive into the next installment of the Royal Elite Series, Steel Princess. The steamy moments were not the most sensual that I have ever read, but they were ok and if this were a normal romance, then I would have given it a lower rating but the plot is what has engaged me and is what will keep me listening to more of the series. I liked the heroine, who, in contrast to many other modern heroines possesses the ability to stand for herself. The book started so strong with him being really up front and centre but then he just got kinda lost?
