About this deal

Guns cannot be sterilized. The gun cannot be vacuum autoclaved, which is a requirement by law for body piercing equipment and hospital equipment. The gun is a (usually) metal frame with a plastic cover; the cover would melt if it was properly sterilized. There is a small plastic casing put around the stud before use which is disposable (though if you’re getting a pair of piercings, the same plastic casing is used for both piercings), but the actual gun is re-used on dozens, hundreds…. Thousands? Of people WITHOUT being sterilized, simply wiped down with some disinfectant. I operate a strict no-gun policy. I do not own a piercing gun, nor will I ‘recommend’ anywhere that uses them. While we’re on it, I do not pierce babies, toddlers or children either (no one under 16) I have another blog on this subject, if you’d care to read it.There are no laws on ear piercing, but it’s generally accepted that anyone under 16 must have a parent or legal guardian with them who will sign the consent form for their child (by law, there is NO minimum age for ear piercing). Most of the professional piercers at your neighborhood studio are using single-use needles. They’re typically hollow with a triangular tip that’s razor-sharp, designed to create a precise opening for a piercing — so it doesn’t remove any extra tissue in the process. Brian Keith Thompson, piercer and owner of Body Electric tattoo and piercing studio in Los Angeles, likens the common piercing method to using a really sharp knife to dice tomatoes: It’s sharp and precise. And piercing with a needle is less traumatic than other methods, he says. This is an extreme ear collapse. This isn’t common but it can happen. This is irreversible without surgery. For starters, Saunders advises against showing up on an empty stomach or after drinking a lot of caffeine. It’s also best to avoid drinking any alcohol beforehand.

Do your research before settling for where you’re going to get your piercing. You should go to a place that’s fully licensed to ensure you’ll get the necessary legal, medical, and financial support if anything goes wrong. The autoclave should be spore-tested at least monthly, and the jewelry, needle, and tools used in the piercing process should be sterilized fresh for use, or be sterilized ahead of time and kept in sealed pouches that are used at the point of service,” he adds. 11. How will the piercing be done? While these two options can help, Saunders does point out they may not be sufficient to comply with work or school dress codes. That’s why it’s best to learn what types of jewelry will be compliant before getting pierced.Nostril Screws: Similar to an L-Shape, nostril screws are jewelry that are bent/arced to match the natural curve of the inside of your nose. This custom bend allows the jewelry to be more comfortable and secure than a standard L-Shape style.

The needle is invisible, concealed within the gun. If you’re more afraid of seeing the needle rather than feeling it, a gun could be the right choice. His best advice? Be calm, breathe, and be attentive to the piercer’s instructions. 5. What about numbing agents? I’m not for one minute saying that EVERY gun piercing will cause problems, or that EVERY needle piercing will heal without incident. Needle piercings can be problematic and swell, just like gun piercings, but it’s a much less common occurrence. And the damage done (if any) is much more rarely permanent/extensive. Proper aftercare is required with any piercing; failure to follow it can easily result in a poorly piercing, whether done with a gun or needle. The main problem with gun piercings is the jewellery used being sub-standard. I see many more gun piercings that have triggered an allergic reaction than those which are infected. Needle piercing can be SAFELY used for a much wider range of placements, and with far more jewellery options. A piercing needle is exactly what it sounds like: a long, sharp needle to pierce through the skin to allow room for a piercing. Piercing needles also allow for versatility with other kinds of body art. Besides your ears, noses, belly buttons, nips, cheeks can all be pierced with a needle. What Are Piercing Guns? Guns are also an ideal option for young children. If you want to get your little one’s ears pierced, there’s less likely to be tantrums and tears with an inconspicuous-looking gun. Piercing Gun Disadvantages Less Accurate

Obviously if everyone who had a gun piercing was reporting issues, the practice would be stopped. There are risks present in any piercing method (gun or needle) but the risks with guns, the environment they are usually used in and the people who usually use them, are much higher than with a needle piercing. I’m not saying that a needle piercing has never caused a problem, but the frequency with which these are observed is much lower than with guns. Experts advise against piercing guns because of a few different concerns. First, the APP contends that reusable piercing guns can expose clients to bloodborne pathogens because of their inability to be autoclaved. An autoclave is a small machine that uses heat, steam, and pressure to sterilize any instrument that isn’t single-use — but piercing guns are plastic, so wouldn’t hold up against the heat of an autoclave. (FWIW, Thompson says nearly everyone he knows in the industry uses autoclaving for the equipment used in piercings.) Also, according to the APP, while the external surface of piercing guns may be wiped down with alcohol or other antiseptics, microscopic particles could contaminate the internal mechanisms of the gun. Clean the piercing twice a day. Use a sterile saline solution, a 50/50 water-and-soap solution, or hydrogen peroxide. Twice a day, saturate a Q-Tip or cotton swab with the cleaning solution, then let it soak into the pierced area for a few minutes. Wipe your piercing from inside and outside your nose. If you've given yourself a nose ring, rotate it slightly each time you clean it. [5] X Research source The pic labelled ‘3’ is of the girl’s other ear, but her right ear obviously has a lot of trauma from the gun piercing (this could be an allergic reaction). The swelling has gone down by the looks of it, but this takes a lot of time. This is not a common thing to happen. Although gun piercing establishments usually train their operators, this training is not standardized and may amount to merely viewing a video, reading an instruction booklet, and/or practicing on cosmetic sponges or other employees. Allegations have been made that some establishments do not inform their employees of the serious risks involved in both performing and receiving gun piercings, and do not instruct staff on how to deal with situations such as client medical complications or gun malfunction. Indeed, surveys conducted in jewelry stores, beauty parlors and mall kiosks in England and the US revealed that many employees had little knowledge of risks or risk management related to their procedure. When done by a professional piercer, Saunders says most piercings are less than one second for the actual piercing procedure. No matter how you slice it, piercings typically involve some pain. But there are things you can do to make sure your experience is as painless as possible.
