About this deal

Knitting tension is what determines the final measurements of your work, and is usually measured per 10 x 10 cm. It is provided like so: number of stitches in width x number of rows in height - eg: 19 stitches x 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm. Alternative cheap option: Any bungee or cord will do! However it’s best not to use cable ties or anything too abrasive as they will damage your flag pole. What do I put on my pole? Shedding also depends on what is worn under or over the garment, and whether this pulls at the yarn fibres. It’s therefore not possible to guarantee that there will be no shedding

ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-7-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. There are many different designs on the market. You can choose something special for you and your family, depending on your budget. Essential Kit

Needle size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm = 4”, change to a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm = 4”, change to a smaller needle size. Alternative cheap option: An old tent pole is a very good option, as they are strong and flexible enough. Always make sure whatever you use is flexible so it will sway in the wind rather than break. Don’t forget when making your pole to attach something to the top to stop the flag sliding off! Ground stake ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 7-8-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. The knitting tension is very individual; some people knit/crochet loosely while others work tightly. You adjust the knitting tension with the needle size, which is why the suggested needle size only serve as a guide! You need to adjust this (up or down) to ensure that YOUR knitting tension matches the knitting tension provided in the pattern. If you work with a different knitting tension than provided you will have a different yarn consumption, and your work will have different measurements than what the pattern suggests.

As well as choosing your decoration, you need to get it in the air! For this you need a flag pole, a ground stake and some bungees or cord. Pole Spinners are particularly eye catching, and especially fun for young children. Be aware that in high winds they may make a noise (some are actually designed to do this!) All yarns will have excess fibres (from production) that might come off as lint or shedding. Brushed yarns (ie hairier yarns) have more of these loose, excess fibres, causing more shedding. This is a great way to get involve the children in the festival experience. Get them to choose one, or even better, make your own! All you need is an old sheet and some fabric paint. Alternative cheap option: A strong garden cane or similar. Make sure it’s deep into the ground. The other option is to tie the pole directly to the poles of your tent or gazebo. Make sure it’s not too tight that the pole will be damaged. Use bungees with some padding around the pole to limit damage. Flag bungees or pole sleeve

Windsocks

If you don’t have time to make one, there are some brilliant ones out there available to buy. Flags Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 14-14-16 stitches left on the needle. When the piece measures 5-7-9 cm = 2”-2 3/4”-3 1/2”, work 2 rows with sea mist, 2 rows with yellow/pink, 2 rows with sea mist and 2 rows with yellow/pink. Continue with sea mist.
