Most large dehumidifiers have a ¾” drainage hose connection. They can fit hoses as wide as garden hoses. However, many come with smaller hoses despite having a wide connection. We bought this dehumidifier for our basement – about 1100 square feet, open space – it’s been humming along essentially full-time ever since, easily keeping the relative humidity in the 50% range. My bedroom is in this open basement space, and I actually find its QUIET hum soothing, because I know it’s dutifully at work keeping my air comfortable. Dehumidifiers that use gravity need a certain pressure to push water out and into the drain. If the end of the hose is sitting in standing water, it will exert pressure on the system, preventing the water from moving out. I have a smaller 1920s house on a pier and crawl foundation in Florida and humidity has always been an issue during the “in between seasons” when the A/C is not running.
