About this deal

After moving to Long Island, Tony frequently spies on Lisa and watches her change clothes. For Christmas, Tony asks for binoculars under the guise of a newfound interest in bird watching. In reality, he wants to get a better view of Lisa. He has wet dreams involving her and fears his parents or the housekeeper will know. Dad tries to have a sex talk with Tony, in which Tony informs Dad he’s knows how babies are made. Dad asks Tony if he’s sure the friend who told him gave him the right information. Tony says yes, and Dad is satisfied. Dad assures Tony, unconvincingly, that he’s there to answer any questions the boy has. He gives Tony a book called Basic Facts About Sex. A gym teacher tells the boys about wet dreams, which he calls nocturnal emissions. Kathryn (Corky) Thomas– A tomboyish girl of Tony's age who has a crush on him, but receives little attention from him. Tony Miglione is an Italian-American teenager whose family moves to an upper-class neighborhood after his father becomes wealthy from an invention. Themes involve class conflict, peer pressure, and the trials of male puberty. (In the latter respect, it is intentionally something of a gender-inverted complement to Blume's preceding novel, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret..)

The book is kind of like "Are You There God? It's me Margaret" for boys. Tony, the main character, is going through puberty and starts spying on the girl next door. He even asks for binoculars for Christmas so he can watch her. It's weird to read the book and see how it's no big deal that's he watching the girl next door undress. He even tells the psychologist he's seeing for anxiety about it and he doesn't even react! Today the kid would be in a treatment program for juvenille sex offenders but in the book it's no big deal. In favor of the book, many people want it to be read by the public because not many authors have written about these controversial issue and most people are unaware of them and how it affects the youth. Schools are trying to get access to her award-winning books where they once wanted these books to be banned. “Public school trustees voted 5 to 2 Monday night to return to library shelves three books by an award-winning children’s writer that had been banned on the ground of sexual references and strong language.” (NY times) The main reason an author writes something is because people don’t realize it’s important enough for the society to know or mainly because the topic is challenged. Millicent– Hispanic housekeeper to the Hoobers who seems to be the only one who is aware of Joel's misbehavior But the reason this is banned is probably due to it's discussions of Tony not understanding why he's getting hard or his shame over wet dreams and asking for binoculars for Christmas to spy on the neighbor girl getting dressed by her open window every night. It was a little uncomfortable at how hyper -focused Tony was on Lisa, but I was never a boy going through puberty so maybe it's accurate...or maybe it was the only thing he could look forward to with all his parents neglect. >_>Lisa Hoober– Joel's attractive 16-year-old sister, whom Tony develops a crush on, and spies on with binoculars via his window Maxine– Housekeeper to the Migliones who directs the house her way and will not let Tony's grandmother cook anymore. She eventfully softens as the book progresses. Theft: Joel repeatedly steals from stores and the school cafeteria. It bothers Tony immensely, but he’s afraid to say anything.

Then again, Maybe I won’t was banned mainly because the information included came to known as age restricted. Most of Judy Blume’s books are at the top of the challenged/banned list because topics of her books mainly focuses on adultery issues. The book dealt with controversial topics such as sexuality, masturbation etc. These are the topics that a parent wouldn’t want their childrens to be reading about. But why? These same children are eventually going to be exposed to bad words, real truths, and changes in their life so, why not now? “These critics among them, parents, librarians, book reviewers, liberal and conservative groups, and other authors call her books shallow, simplistic, unchallenging, poorly written even pandering, salacious, and trashy.” (unknown) Judy Blume said that she was inspired to write the story following the success of her preceding novel Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. Given her earlier novel was about a girl entering puberty and making the transition to womanhood, she decided to write one about a boy going through puberty and making a transition to manhood: "I decided it would be interesting to try out life as a twelve-year-old boy". [1] Theme [ edit ] Marty Endo– One of Tony's new friends who is also one of his basketball teammates and a member of the church youth group.Tony’s brother and sister-in-law announce they’re pregnant. Tony says he knows he shouldn’t think about what you have to do to get someone pregnant, but sometimes he can’t help it. In Jersey City, Tony’s mother sells women’s underwear at a department store. He says she watches women try on underwear all day and that he’d like to do that.

Another theme touched upon is Tony regaining respect for the working class life his parents left behind. For example, Tony and his friends are drinking milkshakes at a malt shop when Joel thinks it is cute to hide the tip inside a partially unconsumed milkshake glass, causing the waitress to make a scene and remark that "your crummy coins buys me a loaf of bread; ever stop and think of that". This causes Tony to reflect on the differences between where he was raised and where he is now.

Language Barrier: Some of the Migliones' first hires as maids can't speak English, only speaking Spanish or French (one is from Haiti, where French is one of the official languages). It takes them a while to find one (Maxine) who does speak English, and Tony's father in the meantime suggests they find one who speaks Italian. Appropriated Appelation: The Hoobers' maid has a Spanish name that Mrs. Hoober finds hard to pronounce, so Mrs. Hoober dubbed her Millicent. She also gets into the habit of calling Tony's mother "Carol" (her real name is Carmella), which Tony's mother doesn't mind, but which infuriates her son.

The love of money might be the root of all evil, as the bible says, or it might not be, but greed and entitlement were what most interested me when I started telling this story. I’m just as interested in these topics today. There are still many kids like Tony, kids who are trying to figure out where they belong in the world. I think there always will be. I gave Tony the stomach pains I had when I was young. I had a lot of anxieties, too. But his puberty–well, I talked to a number of guys and then I just let my imagination do the rest. I read this for a real-world book club; it took about two hours to breeze through. Strangely, it was published in 1971 when I would have been twelve years old, just like the boy in the story, but I never heard of it then and was only vaguely aware of the author's name until now. Once again, I'm looking at a book considered a 'classic' and not buying in. While it's important that someone actually did touch on these topics, as no one else did at the time and where else were kids supposed to get their information. But the story itself felt unfinished. I'd like to know if his grandmother is going to be ok, or whether his mother ever gets a clue. Books give the readers useful information about the world and is capable to provide knowledge and understandings of topics that barely get talked about. Judy Blume is one of the authors that felt like her book would give the society a reason to change and increase their awareness to such topics. Blume’s books talked about topics that a mother would never talk about to their children. The topics included menstruation, masturbation, and wet dreams, among others. Blume wanted the readers to understand every little thing a person goes through after entering the real world. Then Again follows this genre of youth fiction from that era. Tony, the protagonist, and his family (not a terribly dysfunctional or broken family, though with plenty of room for improvement) move from their working class neighborhood in Jersey City to an upper-class area of Long Island after his dad becomes recognized as a genius and has all the money the family could possibly want, forever. Tony befriends the boy next door, who looks perfect on the surface but is actually a real jerk with the beginnings of some serious problems. Tony has his own problems, figuring out how to deal with his family and with his own adolescent development.

I initially review Then Again Maybe I Won’t when I was around 13, and also it has actually remained among my most liked publications. It is the major book, fact be informed, that I have actually read greater than 3 times. I valued whatever concerning this book, yet most especially I was blown away with the advancement and also understanding of the key personality, Tony. He was someone I can associate with, and also at that young age, he was furthermore someone. Judy Blume – Then Again, Maybe I Won’t Audiobook Free Online I would certainly have intended to have actually fulfilled and also dealt with as a buddy. Ms. Blume has a technique for expanding her personalities and also making them seem human. I currently can not appear to browse one more youngsters’ book that captured so efficiently the injury of pubescence, the chaos of expanded- up links, and also the severe truth of averting your young people to realize the troubles of manliness. Read it! It’s an unbelievablebook Carmella Miglione– Tony's mother, who eventually goes by the name Carol, much to Tony's dismay. She becomes self-absorbed with her social status once the family moves to Rosemont. Many readers have enjoyed her written words however, some have showed opposition to that. Some critics think her book is inappropriate for young audience and should not be read by them, the main reason blume wrote the book. She has received many praises from young audiences who thought they were not normal after going through some of the changes reflected in the book. Fortunately, they had someone who talked about these changes as they were important for these youngins to learn about. ‘Shame, shame, shame,’ declared author Junot Diaz, reading from one such letter. After marriage, she was also playing a role of a homemaker, until she decided to enter the writer’s world. Although, her husband was not convinced with her decision and was discouraging, it didn’t stop Blume to continue writing children’s novels. She took writing classes at NYU, where she advanced her skills and got her first children’s book, The one in the middle is the green Kangaroo (1969) published. Overall, she wrote 13 other books, including the most popular ones, Are you there god, it’s me Margaret (1970), It’s not the end of the world (1972), Forever (1975), Tiger Eyes (1981) and many other books.
