About this deal

Depending on the valve and sealant combo, I often need to clean Presta valves every two or three months. Sometimes a core will be so gunked up the only solution is to replace it. I have been using the same pair of Filmore Valves on my mountain bike for a year and a half, and they are still as crisp as the day I installed them. I have yet to experience any clogs, and there has been no reduction in the air capacity of the valve. And the valves have required zero maintenance. If you have more than one tubeless wheelset at home, I'm willing to bet at least one of those wheels currently has a clogged valve. If not totally stopped up, it might be one of those valves that (when you try to air up the tire) the air takes forever to flow into the wheel. The long-time solution to this has been a removable valve core, which allows you to force more air in and simultaneously clean the valve of gunked-up sealant that accumulates there over time. And since the valve is high up in a Presta design, it constantly pulls more sealant into the main body of the valve whenever you attach it to a pump. This means sealant clogs are a constant issue. Thus, Presta valves require periodic maintenance and often replacing the valve altogether. Another minor downside is that Fillmore valves don't play all that well with some tire inserts. In particular, inserts that lay flat against the rim tape. This forces the Fillmore valve to push the insert to open, significantly reducing the airflow advantage. So if you're a big fan of tire inserts, these might not be for you.
