As the data underlying Family Court Statistics Quarterly (FCSQ) are extracted from a live administrative database, figures are subject to revision in future publications. For tables that use information from the FamilyMan or CCD systems, data are extracted for the full timeseries within each bulletin. Minimal changes (i.e. a handful of cases) may be observed in earlier years, whilst larger changes are seen in the most recent quarters as cases progress further through the system. This is especially relevant for case progression tables (Tables 8-10). Receipt of subsequent information dealing with cases, by way of investigations, where concerns are raised about the way in which Attorneys or Deputies are carrying out their duties. The Mental Capacity Act 2005 provides a statutory framework to empower and protect vulnerable people who are not able to make their own decisions. It makes it clear who can take decisions, in which situations, and how they should go about this. It enables people to plan ahead for a time when they may lose capacity. Collection Guides: Private Case". The British Library. Archived from the original on 18 March 2023 . Retrieved 12 March 2023. Different types of cases tend to take different lengths of time to complete – in general public law cases for children take longer than private law cases and divorce cases tend to be quite lengthy due to set time limits, whereas domestic violence cases are usually completed in a fairly short time due to their nature. Another factor that may influence how long a case takes is whether one or both parties had a legal representative or alternatively represented themselves. This may also be affected by whether the parties consent to the application or are contesting it which in turn may reflect the complexity of the case. 5.2 Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders (LASPO) Act 2012

Much of the burden of delivering the PLO, both pre and post issue of proceedings, falls on local authorities. I am particularly appreciative of the very positive way that those in local authorities that I have met in recent weeks have spoken about the relaunch. Despite the hard work involved, it is seen as the way of getting on top of the caseload and focussing on the key child protection needs and required actions. Kisch, Egon Erwin (1926). UK National Statistics Publication Hub: This is the UK’s home of official statistics, reflecting Britain’s economy, population and society at national and local level. There are links to the Office for National Statistics and the UK Statistics Authority.Advocates and solicitors who have the conduct of private prosecutions must observe the highest standards of integrity, of regard for the public interest and duty to act as a Minister for Justice in preference to the interests of the client who has instructed them to bring the prosecution – owing a duty to the court to ensure that the proceeding is fair. Applications have been made by 151 different local authorities and 21 hospital or mental health trusts. Attar, Karen (2016). The five other legal deposit institutions all have the right to request publications; the British Library does not have to request them. [3]

Just over a fifth (21.5%) of all applications were made by local authorities in the North West of England, followed by 17.2% of applications from local authorities in London. Local authorities in the North East have made the fewest number of applications (3.5% of the total). This pattern of regional variation has broadly remained the same since July 2022. From 1964—and reflecting the increasing liberalisation of social mores of the time—the library began to liberalise its approach to works in the Private Case, revising the collection and moving items onto the general catalogue for general access, a process that was completed in 1983. There have been no new entries in the Private Case since 1990 and all new erotic or pornographic material is openly accessible and listed in the general catalogue. There is no restriction on access to the Private Case material, except for some items which are in a fragile condition. At its largest, the collection comprised some 4,000 works; as at 2023 about 2,500 volumes are still classified by the library as part of the Private Case. For solicitors there was a small pilot that has been in operation from last July 2018 for the petition online. Since June 2019 the response to the divorce and application for decree nisi is also available. Further enhancements to include the decree nisi and decree absolute rolled out nationally in September 2019 following a small pilot. Following the publicity surrounding Baby P case [footnote 1], the number of children involved in public law applications made by local authorities jumped from around 20,000 in 2008 to almost 26,000 in 2009, and subsequently to 29,500 in 2011 (Table 2). Figures remained steady until late 2015, after which there has been a steady increase, such that there are now nearly 36,000 children involved in public law applications. The judge in such a situation will always be concerned to ask [themselves]: is there some solid reason in the interests of the children why I should embark upon, or, having embarked upon, why I should continue exploring the matters which one or other of the parents seeks to raise. If there is or may be solid advantage in the children in doing so, then the inquiry will proceed, albeit it may be on the basis of submissions rather than oral evidence. But if the judge is satisfied that no advantage to the children is going to be obtained by continuing the investigation further, then it is perfectly within [their] case management powers and the proper exercises of [their] discretion so to decide and to determine that the proceedings should go no further.’
