Sometimes I Might be Introvert - Rough Trade Little Simz - Sometimes I Might be Introvert - Rough Trade

The themes of this album are wide spanning, but one of my favorites, is just the overwhelming positivity across the record. Even when faced with adversity, Simz is comfortable enough in her craft and her own abilities that, she empowers herself and the listener, with grand statements of triumph and reassurances from someone who has learned the hard way. This is a pretty rare and unique sentiment coming from an A list artist... A few hours before the album’s release, Simbi released the fifth and final single “Point and Kill.” Once the record was out, she wrote: The production is a breath of fresh air in a trap-dominated soundscape. The album features a blend of epic orchestral elements with strings and horns as well old school beats taken from neo-soul and jazz rap among many other genres. It sounds full and well-rounded, nothing is missing! Even when she does dabble in contemporary sounds on "Rollin Stone," it's excellent! The way that Simz and Inflo (Producer) communicate on this record is unbelievable. I cant remember the last time I heard a musical relationship like this where the instrumental is MADE for the vocalist and visa versa. The way that Simz and Inflo (Producer) Little Simz really gave us her masterpiece here. SIMBI is cinematic, grandiose, and wide scoping... The highly anticipated new album from the Ivor Novello Award-wining and Mercury nominated artist, Little Simz.

Little Simz – Sometimes I Might Be Introvert (2021, Red

Rapper Little Simz is releasing a new album, called Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, via her own Age 101 label this September. Over the course of her lush, expansive, defiantly sprawling new album, “Sometimes I Might Be Introvert”, released on Age 101, the Ivor Novello award-winning, Mercury nominated Little Simz delivers an undeniable modern classic, effortlessly condensing any number of disparate styles and genres into music which thrillingly broaches the gap between urgent modern treatise and hip hop.Little Simz really gave us her masterpiece here. SIMBI is cinematic, grandiose, and wide scoping... The second single, “Woman,” was released on May 6, 2021. It was followed by the third single “Rolling Stone” on June 14, 2021, and the fourth single “I Love You, I Hate You” on July 8. If I had to describe it one word, it'd be CLASSY! The grandiose orchestral production and Simbi's charismatic delivery makes the hour long journey an epic and enthusiastic one. I'm enthralled every moment, even during the cheesy interludes that are taken straight out of a British princess fairytale. They don’t always succeed. Even so, the occasionally overwhelming effect of all that mental offloading seems a fair price to pay in exchange for an artist determined to cram their character into every corner of their work. Sometimes I Might Be Introvert may or may not provide a commercial boost for its maker, but this rich, fascinating album cements Little Simz’s significance regardless. Without wasting any time at all, the album opens with the heart stopping clarion call of “Introvert”, a visceral essay about lives lived in the cross-hairs of society, fuelled by fear, exhaustion, frustration, but also a kind of white hot political awakening. It’s a full-bore, high-stakes, facing up to death riposte, as urgent as it is compelling, complete with a stunning video by Salomon Lightelm which is by turns majestic and terrifying, with a chopped up, collaged structure perfectly mirroring the landscape it maps; a place of beauty and danger, of violence and dogged resistance. The centre, Simz is keen to remind us, will not hold (“man it’s like they can’t sleep until our spirit is crushed”) – and here she is driven to document every unsparing detail.
