About this deal

Loaded with very human emotion possible. Lust, love, bravery, endurance, persistence, courage, sacrifice and motherhood. Motherhood is THE most powerful of all emotions in this book. The characters in this book were written so well. Iris was such a strong and inspiring character and reading about her go through the worst period of her life was so heartbreaking but honestly a privilege to read. I cried most of the book, sad, angry and happy tears. There were some very distressing scenes which were incredibly hard to read which were very graphic and upsetting so be careful before going into this book. I have so much respect and adoration for Iris for surviving such awful domestic violence. She is a FIGHTER!! Eight words to describe August West: Patient, naïve, considerate, methodical, reflective, focused, noble and oh so sweet.

From award-winning author Kennedy Ryan comes the soul-gripping, unforgettable first installment of the Hoops trilogy. Yep, what I said above the graphic, prior to reading the book, rings true! The combo of a favorite author and sports romance made for one stellar read. Long Shot follows star-crossed lovers; the sports marketing student Iris and August, the rookie basket ball phenom and their long road to one another. They meet by happenstance one evening, and fall into easy, intriguing conversation and mutually forge a fast but fierce bond over shared childhood challenges, goals and personal triumphs. They seem like peas in the most adorable pod only the timing is off, Iris has a boyfriend and they part ways, magnets being pulled apart, though they longed to connect. Over the next year they saw one another twice, each time the magnetic pull between them stronger than before. But time, that elusive, and world’s most valuable commodity never seems to be on their side, you see in that year, Iris has had the very goals and dreams she shared with August become derailed and deferred and has found herself trading the life she wanted for living the life someone else fashioned for her, breaking her mind, body and spirit to fit into their mold. But through it all, that undeniable attraction never dies and when tragedy strikes on and off the court for them both, it is that very connection that will save each of their lives. Ok, I need to stop here because I could spend all day re-reading and sharing all the highlights I have of all the delicious things that came from August. Iris is a glorious and incredible character. A warrior. A survivor. Her story brought me to my knees. My heart broke for her cause her story is another woman’s too. I knew there was light at the other end of the tunnel and it was worth it to go through all this violence to get it.

Details About Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan PDF

Their story is beautiful, heart breaking, funny, sexy, and so very relevant. There are some trigger warnings for abuse and trauma but if you can just be in the moment with these characters, feel with them there is resolution.

When I first read Kennedy's Grip series, I knew this woman's writing was for me. When I finished Long Shot, I knew this woman cemented herself as a favorite. Center,” he says, linking our fingers and toying with the hair hanging on my shoulder. “If you were mine, Iris, there would be no doubt what position you’d hold in my life. You’d be center. I’d play you at the five.”Iris first meets August when Caleb is playing away, she is watching a game in a local bar near her hotel and they chat the night away, its like their souls are aligned, like they have known each other years and in the moment when it's time to say goodnight Iris doesn't take it any further and even though the pull is strong for them to kiss she tells August she has a boyfriend, that moment, if only Iris had known this was a sign, an invisible crossroads in her life.

This book.......took me on a journey. A very raw, emotional, stripping of my soul journey. One that made me feel as if I was in the story experiencing all the highs and lows, the joys and sorrows, the hopes and fears, and the strength and determination of characters that engrained themselves into my soul. With the visual clarity of the author’s vivid, heartfelt, and passionate words, this story felt real, raw and painfully open and honest. A melancholy yet hopeful journey of life’s timing and the choices one makes over others. As a reviewer, I like to think I make it pretty clear when something works for me and when something doesn't work for me. When it doesn't, I'll honestly lay out why. And when it does, I'll shout my love from the rooftops. Before I get into it, I have to warn readers that this book has sensitive themes that may trigger some. It is told in graphic detail, so tread lightly. Long Shot (stand-alone) is the against-all-odds love story, spanning years, between NBA superstar and businessman August West and college grad and aspiring sports marketer Iris DuPree.

Long Shot is an absolute "must read". You will love August and Iris. You will be gutted with the story. And you will fall in love as they find the strength to fight their way to that perfect moment and take the long shot. Instead, I'm going to let Kennedy's beautiful prose and her magnificent characters sell this book for me. I want to laugh. I want to cry. I want to sing hallelujah that a man like this exists and that I know him. A deep-seeded longing springs up inside of me, and I’m not sure when I’ll be able to give in to it. I long to let him hold me. To let myself hold him, have him. I drop my forehead to his chest and take in his scent and the intoxicating nearness of him. He strokes my hair, and I feel his lips ghost the top of my head. When they finally reconnect, the pull they've always felt towards one another is too strong to deny. They momentarily give in to their feelings, and for that moment, all seems right with the world. Until that moment has passed and reality comes crashing down....

Holy Moly this was one powerful read! Kennedy Ryan’s writing grabbed hold of me from the beginning with a connection between Iris and August that spans years. Centered around two NBA ball players and a beautiful young women fresh out of college. Iris is driven by her own career dreams and aspirations. Iris Dupree’s life takes several dark turns during the years and her situation seems hopeless.

Iris is one of those book characters who will stay with me forever as will August. She is a tough cookie, he is the gentlest kind of gentleman. Together, you just know they will be perfect but life doesn’t always let you take the easiest path. Sometimes you have to play hopscotch. Now from the teasers and posts the author has shared, I think most can surmise what this story is about and the tough subject it covers (a little more on that towards the end of this review). I don't want to go into any specific details because it'll be pretty hard to talk about the plot without honestly revealing huge spoilers.
