About this deal

It was this passion for LTJ Bukem and Roni Size that set the base for the career of the San Francisco-based producer, composer, musician and creative force behind his twice Grammy nominated Tycho project. Talismantra's "Warmth Released" is a beautiful opener, and Skanna (AKA Quivver)'s "This Way" is deep and gorgeous, and is my pick for the best track on the album.

It was a peak behind the curtain into an area where only friends and family were normally permitted. Their entry into the lauded chill-out series originally came out in 2000, and while it might not be too hard to find one of the CD copies, the triple vinyl set fetches princely sums these days. There really is no continuity within this comp, there are some good tracks here and there, but overall they don't come together very well. Those familiar with ambient, techno, or chillwave will be impressed with the more popular attributed track remixes, but the obscure tracks are the true gold on the release.

Having sold over 10 million records and embarked on a number of sold out arena tours, the esteemed record collector and all round great selector delves deep into his weighty collection at his home to create a heady journey of funk and soul. the copyright in this Sound Recording is owned by Hard Hands Ltd under exclusive license to Sony Music Entertainment (U) Ltd. Tycho brilliantly reinterprets each song, never losing the essence of what makes the track win in the first place. Each artist gets to present you with their favorite songs, as they would play them for you at an after hours party.

Here the mixing is flawless, with silky smooth transitions from track to track and expert track placement. All image and audio content is used by permission of the copyright holders or their agents, and/or according to fair dealing as per the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. This has aged very well indeed - very nicely constructed "After Hours" set which transcends soul, grooves, chill, funk and techno. Other stand-outs include Coldcut's classic "Autumn Leaves" (which was sampled by Nick for his Way Out West song "The Fall"), Symbiosis'"Spiritual Technology", and Glide's "Space Van". I was really into cosmology and astrophysics back in college and I kept coming across the name of the 16th Century Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe.Intertwining carefully crafted visuals with a pulsating combination of ambience, samples, guitars and synthesizers, the Tycho story is now six albums old since the arrival of ‘Past Is Prologue’ in 2006. A mix for smoky rooms, too full houses, a drive through the countryside, or the intimacy of a bedroom. Beautiful but not cheesy, rare records but not boring, with the emphasis on tracks themselves, not DJ skills ruining records.

Tycho not only honours his inspirations on Back to Mine but offers four tracks of his own, two remixed and two new releases.

Walters and performed by Slick Rick, published by Def American Songs, Inc, courtesy of Def Jam Recordings Inc. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more engrossing 20 minutes in this series than the first 2/3 of the second CD. I really like his Global Underground stuff (check especially his Amsterdam set on GU 18), but this is something special. Remember when you were a kid and rock and roll or hip-hop or whatever was 'in' with the youth of the day and then you'd go to grandma's house and she'd have this old music from the 30s, 40s, or 50s, be it swing, gospel, soul, big band, whatever, and you'd roll your eyes and make fun? My guess is it might be the Nightmares On Wax release as it would fit into the timeline, but it's been given a totally different catalogue number, it's driving me insane lol!
