About this deal

At Hampden, fermentation is like a dream for anyone who can grasp the magic and mystery of this process that can transform flour into bread, grapes into wine and fermented sugarcane into rum. Hampden's HLCF Classic Overproof rum has a high ester content of around 400-600 gr/hlpa - for this release, the ester content is 476 gr/hlpa, in no small part due to the long wild yeast fermentations practised at the distillery. Aged for a minimum of 7 years in the tropics after a long, natural fermentation, this blend of 100% traditional Pot Still marks is characterised by a high ester profile and tropical notes.

It has maintained the same production methods and techniques for the last two centuries, such as the use of its own spring water, prolonged fermentation time with wild yeasts, tropical ageing, no added colorants and sugar, and distillation exclusively in pot stills.Aged for a minimum of 8 years in the tropical heat of the Caribbean, Hampden Estate 8YO is packed full of tropical fruit notes, spice and a hint of funk that Hampden are renowned for. Renowned for their fully flavoured rums made in the same way for two centuries using its own spring water, long ferments, using wild and natural yeast strains, no added colours and no added sugars - just superbly made pot still rum with no mucking about! But it's been fermented for a longer time (as it says on the label), so the esters are quite noticeable, too much for my taste.

Very complex, packing big aromas of pineapple, passion fruit and new-car leather, candied and jellied fruit, papaya, guava, lime, Seville orange, blood orange and nectarine, banana and toasted spice notes build, with prominent clove notes. Overall Steve was amazing, the experience was great, and DH says way better than Appleton tour (I’ve never been). On the palate: Persistent and pleasant notes of ginger, vanilla, dark chocolate and coffee bean, resin and praline. We believe that all the wines in our range are excellent examples of their style, and offer exceptional value for money. Tropical aging for eight years accentuates vibrant layers of banana, pineapple, and passion fruit, seamlessly balanced by toasted spices and a touch of funky oiliness. A high ester Hampden Estate Jamaican rum, HLCF stands for Hampden Light Continental Flavoured, one of many distillate styles made at the Hampden Estate distillery, where rum has been made since 1753.

Hampden estate, that makes Hampden Estate Rum Fire, is perhaps the most traditional rum producer in the world.Gentle spice with a touch of candied lemon - once past the fruit there's so much going on with the spice and dark smokiness.

Pass the remains of an old sugar factory and come to an avenue of royal palms that frame Hampden’s beautiful Great House. However, the complete tour is not suitable for wheelchair users because of the uneven grass surface and steps. This has the profile and complexity of an unaged Overproof, but with a bit of softening from the barrel. Trelawny, where the Hampden Estate is situated makes the heaviest and funkiest rum on the island of Jamaica. The nose is voluptuous and intense, with notes of caramelised apple and sweet spices mixed with a delicate touch of smokiness. In 2016 the fourth pot still joined the others: built by the South African firm TNT, it also has a capacity of 5,000 gallons.
