About this deal

Hopper sighed and took a sip. This wasn’t how he had planned to spend the Fourth of July, but he knew he shouldn’t judge. The children—all thirty of them, nearly the whole of Sara’s elementary school class—were having a great time, being entertained by a team of professionals hired just for the occasion by the Palmers, and being fed and watered—and sugared—by a catering crew that were probably being paid more for this one gig than Hopper earned in a whole month.

Book two in the Stranger Things extended universe is focused on our favorite policeman, Jim Hopper. Hiatt, Brian (November 17, 2005). "Bruce Springsteen's 'Born to Run' Turns 30". Rolling Stone. On the day after Christmas, 1984, El finds an old box containing files about Jim. Seeing her curiosity piqued, and realizing she doesn't know that much about him, Hopper decides to tell her a story of his life in New York City. Christmas, Hawkins, 1984. All Chief Jim Hopper wants is to enjoy a quiet first Christmas with Eleven, but his adopted daughter has other plans. And why has he never talked about New York?

Only rich people could live in a house like this, he thought, because only rich people could afford the army of cleaners it must need to keep it just so. Rich people who thought they were Andy Warhol. Rich people who were friends with Andy Warhol, or at least knew his decorator.

Top Pop Albums – for the week ending March 16, 1985". Billboard. March 16, 1985. p.75. Archived from the original on February 4, 2023 . Retrieved November 8, 2016.

My Book Notes

Hopper and El are relaxing in Hopper's cabin for their first Christmas together. They're snowed in and Mike is away to see relatives, so a bored Eleven asks Hopper to tell her about his life. He tries to avoid the subject, especially not wanting to talk about Vietnam, but caves in when Eleven pulls out a box containing files from his time as a homicide detective in New York City. What Hopper discovers is a dangerous man known as Saint John who returned from Vietnam with a dark message.

As with most runaway hits, Stranger Things has hit the cash-in market in a huge way – there are action figures, plush toys, T-shirts, video games, even a Monopoly set – but they’ve also used this commercial reach to widen the mythology of the series, with a new comic book published this year by BOOM! Studios and a series of tie-in novels from the penguin imprint, Century. I'm a huge fan of the Netflix show Stranger Things. I adore the characters, the small town mystery, and the creep factor. The show relies on the nostalgia viewers have for pop culture and fond memories of their own childhood to make this a binge-worthy show. Hopper hid his grin in his wine glass as he drained it, and turned his attention to the scene unfolding in the middle of the room, where Diane sat with the other women—most clad in long, flowing cotton dresses that looked a lot more breathable than the men’s fashion choices—leaning in to listen as the fortune-teller stared into the crystal ball and pretended to read the future of . . . was it Cindy, Tom’s mother?

The story opens in Hawkins, 1984 and Hopper and Eleven first Christmas together. Let there be Eggos™! She wants a story, one about his past life and she pulls out a box marked New York. Hopper reluctantly shares his last case there. One that took place in the summer of 1977, one that forever changed him…. Light . . . There’s . . .” The fortune-teller grimaced, like she’d just bitten into a lemon. “There’s . . . No, it’s not light, it’s an . . . absence. A void. Dark, a cloud, like a wave, coming in, sweeping over . . . over . . .”
