About this deal

As the first in a new series of books, we are introduced to DS Ashley Knight, a police officer with a past and hopefully a future after enjoying this book so much!

Greenwood's writing is always imbued with a poetic quality, — most notably in the pacing and the imbedded light vs dark balance in the narrative — breathing life into the picturesque, real life landscape of Cromer Beach and its surroundings.Other characters involved are a local crab fisherman who seems to find many of the bodies and a disabled man whose relationship with the group at the party or the recent events is unclear. There was also one throwaway line which, as a lawyer, I didn’t believe was accurate which niggled a bit but I doubt anyone without a legal background would think anything of it, so I’m being a little pedantic here and I know sometimes I have to let things go for the sake of poetic licence! If you do ( like me with my pathological inability to put down a book after starting to read it) then it’s perfectly fine to skim read it.

The readers of Death on Cromer Beach will continue following DS Ashley Knight and Hector Fade's investigation to discover what happens.

Bestselling Ross Greenwood is back with the start of an exciting new series, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham, Ian Rankin and Peter James.

The rest of the Ashley’s MIT team were introduced and I look forward to learning more about them in further books. Greenwood is able to keep the calibre of his writing high and the action ongoing with this debut thriller, which takes a grisly murder and leaves it up to an established copper with a new team to solve it. Although it’s the first in a series, Ashley is a gal with a past and is soon opening up to a new DC, giving him chapter and verse about her traumatic past. We get to know the main members of the police team throughout the book, building up a picture of their professional lives and glimpses into their private lives. It soon becomes clear that the murders were carefully planned and the finger of suspicion points to an organised crime gang, but as the evidence mounts, a far more sinister theory emerges.Overall an easy but enjoyable read and I will be interested to read the next in the series set in Hunstanton (again though not one of my favourite Norfolk resorts – hopefully Wells or Holkham will feature soon although I suspect Great Yarmouth will fit the series better). I'm going to mark this as being read because I suffered through just over half of the book, but it is really a DNF.

I then began a rather nomadic existence, living and working all over the country and various parts of the world.Death on Cromer Beach has a very large cast of characters, so much so that Greenwood has supplied a list of police officers and their ranks at the front of the book. I love Ross Greenwood's portrayal of his characters and the way they interact with each other throughout this book.
