Picking up where its 2018 predecessor (itself a sequel to the 1978 original) left off, Halloween Kills continues ‘the night he came home’ (again), this time widening the focus away from the sidelined Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) to explore the trauma the murderous Michael Myers has inflicted on the entire town of Haddonfield. The movie itself is a welcome addition to the Halloween story and follows on directly from the end of last one though it’s presented in very lacklustre packaging for such a beloved horror franchise. I didn’t like the first time I saw this film at theatres and I’m sure it was because of the high volume levels which made the movie less enjoyable and very loud. But it also felt like the sole reason for this movie to exist was to just take the violence to 11 and nothing more.
