About this deal

If you want more of me writing about a Brigid Kemmerer book I did not care for, you can read this. Or this.

Readers looking for a different sort of coming-of-age story or teen protagonists grappling with complex situations will fall in love with this romance-tinged novel When the story opens, Rob and Maegan are both just in survival mode, each trying to lay low and get through the school year drawing as little attention to themselves as possible. When Rob and Maegan get paired up on a project in Calculus class, however, everything changes. I feel like most of the time, a lot of "romance" books are light and happy. I love how Alissa brings light to a lot of what other people experience. Throughout CIWYW, Sloane and Ethan have this off-and-on-again relationship and she for some reason cannot seem to let him go- no matter how he treats her. CIWYW shows the reality of an unexplainable love for someone that you know you shouldn't love. I feel that this is something a lot of people experience, but is rarely a "trope" (if you can even call it that?) in books. You’d think being a mom he would have listened to me but noooo! He did his “thing” and I was really stressed and disappointed. Fearing the worse for him. It was like witnessing a car collision in the making. You want to prevent it yet you know you are too slow or too late. Powerless.

The story of BL director James, who has a secret on-set romance with one of his actors, Ait. The series will explore the darker side of the entertainment industry, and the pressure actors receive from talent agencies, revealing the corrupted BL industry that is indeed far from perfection. I honestly didn't care that much about James. He was fine, I guess. I liked when he put those ignorant employees in their place, though. I mean, he straight-up fired one of them for being homophobic, as he should. Ait didn't bother me much, but he was a little annoying at times. Like in the final episode. He seriously thought being jealous of James and Marco when Bas was pouring his heart out was appropriate. That felt off to me. Also, he asked James whether he actually loved him. I don't think you should have to ask that. That seems like you have such little trust in your partner. He should stop doubting James all the time. James never showed any indication of having an interest in anyone else than Ait. Robin Hood stole money from the wealthy to help poor people. We all see him as a hero. But at the end of the day he was still stealing!

This particular book was sent to me from Tin House Books when I requested a copy of "Hot Springs", and the description on the inside flap intrigued me. before i give my constructive criticism, i want to recognize the good things. i liked that the author always recognized the toxic parts of sloane and ethan’s relationship and never sugarcoated it. i also liked that the book was an easy read and a good palate cleanser - especially after a thriller. i also loved loved loved lauren i thought she was such a good friend with so many good qualities.

I always love the star-crossed lover books where a popular guy is paired with an unpopular girl, or vice versa, on a project, so this was right up my alley. Except, here, we have two totally different social groups coming together…but they’re both now outcasts, and I loved the twist on that trope I love so much. And, even more than that, I love that Kemmerer could explore trust among two ‘wrongdoers’, along with betrayal, friendship, attraction-and standing up for what you believe to be right. I loved it. It’s all so convoluted and twisty and turny in the sense that Maegan doesn’t know what to think about Rob, whether he was involved or not, and where his morality is questioned as he finds himself turning into a modern day Robin Hood. The friendship that blossoms between Rob and Maegan is one of my favorite things about Call It What You Want. I love the way Kemmerer writes unlikely friendships like theirs. She portrays that initial awkwardness of the relationship and then the slow opening up to one another so authentically and so beautifully. I could read books like this from Kemmerer all day every day and never get tired of them. I have never read a novel with a more appropriate title. Because I can’t tell you why or how, if you ask me, but I am really impressed by this book... Meaghan made one bad decision when she tried to cheat on the SAT and got caught. Invalidating the scores of all the other students.

Call It What You Want is a nostalgic ode to all 'almost love' stories- the ones with no label, no title but an undeniable intensity. Call it what you want, was it love? Sloane Hart is a hopeless romantic who always believed her great love story wa...

Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing -

In a time of typewriters and steam engines, Iris Winnow awaits word from her older brother, who has enlisted on the side of Enva the Skyward goddess. Alcohol abuse led to her mother’s losing her job, and Iris has dropped out of school and found work utilizing her writing skills at the Oath Gazette. Hiding the stress of her home issues behind a brave face, Iris competes for valuable assignments that may one day earn her the coveted columnist position. Her rival for the job is handsome and wealthy Roman Kitt, whose prose entrances her so much she avoids reading his articles. At home, she writes cathartic letters to her brother, never posting them but instead placing them in her wardrobe, where they vanish overnight. One day Iris receives a reply, which, along with other events, pushes her to make dramatic life decisions. Magic plays a quiet role in this story, and readers may for a time forget there is anything supernatural going on. This is more of a wartime tale of broken families, inspired youths, and higher powers using people as pawns. It flirts with clichéd tropes but also takes some startling turns. Main characters are assumed White; same-sex marriages and gender equality at the warfront appear to be the norm in this world. Maegan, a classic overachiever, has been living in her older sister's shadow for years. Feeling pressured to succeed, Maegan cheats while sitting for her SAT, causing consequences for everyone in the room. This book is going to fly off the shelves to all teens, but it will hold special interest for those looking for a tear-jerking romance, and serious readers of realistic fiction - VOYATwo ostracized teens forge a relationship in this dual narrative that delves deeply into family dynamics. It's wild stuff in the second half, as you can see, but the prose is still that clean, hard masculine style that has earned Morris so much praise. (And most definitely not the headache-inducing Pynchon, Joyce in Ulysses kind of stuff.) To borrow from the phrasing in the story, "My Roommate Kevin is Awesome," the second half of the collection plays with the "established principles" of how the world should work (like any fiction writer does, right?). Hopefully, for participating in these mind-benders with Morris, readers won't experience the same kind of Old Testament-style vengeance Kevin and his roommate are threatened with for challenging the "eternal verities."
