About this deal

If you’re still unsure (and want a more rounded Talisker experience), their 10 year old core-expression is similarly priced to the Skye and Storm. For good reason, this entry level bottle has been around for a while and won’t disappoint.

About The Distillery

Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. Their venture into whisky-making was not a success and by 1848 the bank was in control. For the next three decades Talisker stumbled through a series of other owners who found it hard to keep afloat a distillery which is remote even by 21st century standards. In 2007 Talisker 18-year-old won "Best Single Malt In The World 2007" at the World Whiskies Awards. [9] and in 2015 Talisker 10 Year Old won a Double Gold Medal and "Best Single Malt Scotch up to 12 years" in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Hard cheeses like cheddar and Gruyere are a good choice, as they can stand up to the peaty and smoky flavours of the whisky. Soft cheeses like blue cheese or Camembert are also a good choice, as they will help to complement the whisky’s sweetness.

In the movie Charlie Wilson's War, CIA agent Gust Avrakotos presents US Rep. Wilson a bottle of Talisker. The agent explains to Charlie the scotch is mentioned in a Robert Louis Stevenson poem, "The Scotsman's Return From Abroad". [16] The bottle is bugged and allows him to listen to the congressman's conversations. When pairing the Talisker Storm with food, it is important to match the smoky and peaty notes with bold flavours that can stand up to the intensity of the whisky. Rich, hearty dishes like steak and potatoes or barbecued ribs pair well with Talisker Storm, as do game meats such as venison. The distillery’s water comes from Cnoc nan Speireag (Hawk Hill). The malted barley used in production comes from Muir of Ord. Talisker whisky is typically peated to a phenol level of approximately 18–22 parts per million (ppm). Taste: Salty, peppery, smoky. But in moderation. Some toasted oak, nori and olive brine as well. A tinge of burnt lemon peel too. Rather oily mouthfeel, by the way.

Storm’ was the first of three no-age-statement whiskies which was released in 2013. Each have their own nuances within the range, with the Storm edition exemplifying the darker, smokier aspects of the Carbost distillery character. Talisker Storm is much more heavily peated than the Skye, and is saltier and smokier on the nose. Elevating all the spicy, peppery notes, the Storm is an amped-up version of their core 10 year old expression with bags of smokiness. As a no-age-statement bottling, the Storm plays on the peaty nature of their malt, with much more of that signature Talisker heat. The distillery began producing special bottlings of the whisky for connoisseurs in the early 2000s, with a 20- and 25-year bottling (where previously only a 10-year and 18-year were available). The 25-year bottling, despite being more expensive than the 20-year bottling, was distributed more widely. [ citation needed] Whiskybase B.V. Talisker is known for it’s range of mildly smoky single malt whiskies, each with low phenol levels of around 18-20 PPM. Each Talisker expression has a smoky flavour, with the smokiest being their NAS Storm edition released in 2013. This whisky is matured in re-charred ex-bourbon American Oak casks which elevate the charcoal and ashy notes within. Nose: Sweet stuff, toffees and vanilla ice cream up front, almost grain-like. Becomes increasingly honeyed. There's a little coastal influence here too, just hints of a sweet Caol Ila perhaps, with very restrained smoke. The Talisker Storm and Talisker Skye are two highly acclaimed single malts, each stemming from the distillery’s famous 10 year old expression. Each has its own unique character and flavour profile, making them both popular choices for whisky connoisseurs.

Mouthfeel: Talisker 10 has an oily, viscous mouthfeel. It is spicy and salty, but also sweet. Its heat and peatyness that can be felt on the tongue. Adding water to Talisker 10 makes it softer, smoother, and slightly sweeter. With Water: A few drops of water tame the sweetness on the aroma and bring out some lemon peel. The palate is brighter and has more tart high notes, which makes it less cloying. I highly recommend a little water with this.Nose: Rather fresh and bright, with a subtle but certainly noticeable coastal influence and a few whiffs of peat. Pretty fruity (banana, mango, berries) and a fair hit of vanilla also. Finally a tinge of licorice and a slight minerality. Really good.
