When we changed to our Lunar in 2013, it's power supply can't be switched off, so an Aldi smart charger is used occasionally during the winter months, taking the battery indoors - the fact that it goes into conditioning mode automatically indicates that 1) it has one and 2) caravan onboard power supplies DO allow sulphation to occur, thus shortening battery lives. The CTEK smart chargers always had conditioning modes - the Aldi/Lidl smart chargers also have that mode. So, with this charger there is at least an opportunity to charge my leisure batteries properly and fully whenever convenient. The important plus point for me is that this charger claims to work on various battery types including AGMs which are what I have for leisure batteries. This review is not meant as a technical lesson into battery technology but I have become aware that different battery types require different charging processes. The onboard charger on my motorhome (and very many others) does not specifically cater for AGMs - there are just switchable settings between wet and GEL batteries. Selecting either of these will not give the right process for AGMs and there are conflicting reports from different trade sources as to which is the nearest compromise. There’s a distinct old-school feel to this hefty, metal-cased RAC charger with its analogue gauge. The instructions feel the same, while plugging it in results in a hot electronics smell and a vibration. Despite 12A on the box, the instructions and gauge have max output at 8A – and we saw 4A as it took 16 hours to hit 80 per cent. At least it had no trouble in the EMC tests. There are better, more modern solutions. Another solid performance from the IBC7, which does a lot of things well. There are 4 Modes, the first is for 6v batteries, Mode 2 is for small 12v wet batteries, Mode 3 is for larger 12v wet batteries and Mode 4 is for AGMs. Whichever is selected will result in a red light to confirm the selection in the top row of lights and a red light in the lower row to show that charging is taking place.

Can't fault our aldi chargers for use on van or car. Kept my neighbours car battery charged every day while he was waiting for a new alternator recently. The Aldi one is around 14. 4 volts, it will put some power in but I never did find a fully charged indicator with my car even after a day charging. I'm now used to seeing a voltage around what you report, regularly on my in car voltmeter. I'm told that anything over 12 volts should be enough to turn and start the car, which appears to be true.Take the car to a good local auto electrician who can do a FOC "drop-test" on the battery to determine it's condition. After leaving the charger attached for over 2 days, it still claimed to be charging and when the charger was removed, the above readings were the same.

Rang my local Aldi - they had one left and have put it aside for me. Happy days! Was seconds away from forking out 40 notes for the CTEK.Bexhill? They had about twenty on Sunday. AGM batteries are often specified on cars with stop/start - the Aldi/Lidl and CTEK chargers handle AGM by using the "cold" 14. 7v setting.Happy to be corrected,but doesn't the OP have a Mercedes Vito with some kind of wheelchair lift,presumably electric. If that's being used at the start and finish of short journeys,could that be causing problems?

Charger is my existing charger bought for charging 12v batteries it is a smart one recommended several times in these forums for leisure batteries from Lidl/Aldi. It is a Ultimate Speed ULGD 3. 8 A1 Output at 12V 0. 8/3. 8A Maybe that's just mine, but watch out like.Mines the same. The instructions state there is a low voltage cut out so it won't charge a completely flat battery as the battery could possibly be damaged. Smart charger conditioning mode is better than old-fashioned chargers as it pulses rather than constant high output.

Includes 12V adaptor, jump starter cable and 3 way USB charging cable for mobile phones and tablets with micro USB / mini USB / or USB-C connection use them fairly often (caravan leasure battery maintenance mainly) along with dads car if its not come out the garage for a week to keep it healthy... Had my car battery on charge all day and was 12. 3 v before starting and the charger has 3 marks showing and charging at 13. 9 v.
