About this deal

Part of the driving force behind the beautifully rendered detail is a strong treble presentation (apparently less so on this higher impedance model). Of course the quality is better, but volume issues were equally as bad as portables and worse than plugging directly in to a computer or laptop. Eventually, I found the pleasure of listening to music mainly by the HD600 and recently, by the seductive LCD2 headphones, and realized the true components of recorded music. From the three, the DT 880 is the most balanced and natural-sounding, admittingly apart from the treble spike.

The coiled cable is quite heavy in weight, and if you listen to your DT880’s while standing or moving, you can notice the cable’s weight and heavy swings. The DT 880 Edition (in the 250-Ohm version) and the DT 880 Black Special Edition are identical in sound. Sound Stage- a very high energy and multi layered track, with so many individual pieces working together a large sound stage is crucial. My despair deepened further when I heard no bass extension, still after a nice and loud 24h burn in.Value aside, if you had to pry one away from me now (880 or 600), I would have to let the DT 880 go. If you want natural, open and uncolored sound from a tough set of professional headphones, get a pair for yourself. Low-treble is well-balanced, but treble is over-emphasized by an average of 5dB, peaking at 12dB around 9KHz. size=medium] The DT880 is a very comfortable, sturdy headphone, with a wonderfully neutral, airy sound and beautifully crisp detail. I love listening to music on headphones, I think it is the second-best way to immerse oneself into the music, to get isolated from the "world" around.

Of course below 20 Hz "audible" is more the room noise modulating itself from intermodulation with the headphone's subsonic input, but that's the way it works in live sound, too. Tunes that have louder volume will sound full and satisfying; laid-back tunes may seem that they need a little more punch. The DT 880's neutral spectral balance is from the professional monitoring market, and less like boosted home hi-fi headphones. Lastly, I prefer the coiled cable for its versatility and durability (snags are less likely to cause damage).
