About this deal

If you don’t have a tonne of streaming service subscriptions, and an accompanying bank account littered with direct debits, then fear not. The Roku Channel is here to bring you a taste of premium content for free. It’s a – yes, we’re going to say it – smorgasbord of films and TV shows as well as over 30 Roku Originals too, many of which are well worth your time. Overall, your choice of a TCL TV may come down to where you live. In the US there are plenty of TVs we’ve reviewed well, and TCL has built up an understanding of the market and what US viewers want from their televisions. Settings can also be accessed from the remote, popping up a box with a few key settings (including Picture), but for the rest you have to press a second settings icon inside the first.

More Apple than Android, Roku is customisable in appearance but part of its success is that it’s the same experience no matter your device. It has a clean UI that’s very straightforward to use. It rarely takes more than one guess to find the menu or setting you’re after but neither does it feel oversimplified. Step down to some 1080p content and this is a perfectly decent upscaler – as long as you don’t mind a little softness and rather less certainty with motion than before. Anything less information-rich than this, though, and the TCL isn’t comfortable in the slightest – it becomes quite coarse and noisy and loses its grip on movement quite badly. Sound QualityThe picture was immediately impressive out of the box: the kind of visual punch that sells high-level TVs. It launched in Eco picture mode, which we initially switched up to ‘Smart HDR’. The luminance was mad, yet never crushing or flaring, but instead supporting crazily three-dimensional contrast and clarity between edges of objects; no apparent enhancement, just pure performance.

With TVs to suit a wide range of budgets, TCL is taking the UK market very seriously, rattling its sabre at well-established elites of the industry such as Samsung and LG. TCL UK’s C745K Series is one of the budget brand’s more premium TV offerings, and it's built with gamers in mind. As well as a refresh rate of 120Hz (or 144Hz for PC gamers), it has a wealth of gaming features built-in, like Gaming Master 2 aiming aid, shadow enhancement, gaming picture mode, VRR and ALLM. The features of the TCL 55RP620K are largely set by the Roku system and that’s no bad thing, as Roku is an excellent platform. It's also a stellar gaming TV with extremely low input lag in Game Mode. It supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on two ports, although its first port can output up to 4k @ 144Hz, while its second is limited to 4k @ 120Hz. Still, this TV can take full advantage of 4k @ 120Hz gaming on newer consoles. For PC gamers, the TV has issues outputting anything above 120Hz when connected to an NVIDIA graphics card, so it's better suited for PCs with AMD GPUs. Otherwise, the TV supports every variable refresh rate (VRR) technology for nearly tear-free gaming from any source. Finally, it runs Google's popular Google TV OS, which is very easy to use and has many apps. The initials stand for The Creative Life and the state-owned Chinese manufacturer typically targets the affordable end of the TV market, though it nevertheless employs some serious technology to rival some of the bigger brands.

3D Stereo Enjoyment

Replaced the TCL 6 Series/R555 2022 QLED with the TCL QM8/QM850G QLED as the 'Best TCL TV' and refreshed the text for accuracy and consistency. Three lines of TV make up TCL’s most recent, budget-oriented TVs: the C64K Series, the RC630K Series and the C745K Series. These TVs scale up in terms of price and features like HDR, QLED displays, Dolby Atmos, and more.

Anyway, that’s the smallest of distractions from an image which combined brilliance with excellent motion handling and being set-and-forget across a range of material. Nor is there any problem watching on the sunniest of days with ambient light streaming in, given the brightness available here, combined with the TCL’s smart settings. Take that, OLED. Dolby Vision material, however, will trigger TCL’s Dolby Vision modes, four in all, but with Dolby Vision IQ the default; this senses the ambient light conditions and moves to Dolby Vision ‘dark’ if you are in a dark room and Dolby Vision ‘bright’ if you are in a very bright room. Step into a world of immersive entertainment with TCL 55 Inch TVs. Engage with content that transports you to the heart of the action, whether it's cinematic storytelling or gaming excitement. Our TVs create an experience that's both captivating and engaging. When it comes to operating systems, TCL hedges its bets. One each of these three TVs runs Android TV, Google TV and Roku OS. Across all of them, you’ll get familiar features like VESA mounting, HDR, Dolby Audio, virtual assistant support, and more. It is Alexa-compatible, but as a Google TV it’ll clearly work best with Google Assistant, especially as the C845 has this capability built-in, with microphones both on the TV and available on the remote by pressing the key with Google’s meaningless coloured symbols on it.

The TCL 55C735K is available in a 55-inch size, providing an immersive viewing experience with its large screen. This size is ideal for medium to large-sized living rooms or entertainment spaces. However, TCL offers a range of size options for their QLED TVs, including smaller sizes for more compact environments or larger sizes for those seeking a truly cinematic experience. 4K Resolution I will re-iterate, do NOT buy a TCL TV if you want a trouble free experience. These guys have done nothing to improve this, for your entertainment just do a search for "Audio Sync issue TCL" and you will find many many people with exactly the same issues. It can't be blamed on a service provider.

Experience precision at its finest with TCL 55 Inch TVs. Our dedication to detail ensures that each image is a masterpiece of clarity, bringing out subtleties that were once hidden. Immerse yourself in content that's presented with astonishing realism and depth. Switch to some 4K content from a streaming service and there’s only the slightest drop-off in detail levels and some restlessness to edge definition to let you know what’s what as regards your source. But you’ll know where your content is coming from already, because the C645K takes longer to load than any screen you’ve sat in front of in who knows how long – and once it’s loaded there’s a short period of jumping and stuttering while the system establishes a buffer. But if you’re planning to use a soundbar in front of this TV, you might choose, as did we, to use the lower mountings to lift the TV a useful few extra centimetres above the desktop: only 3cm more, when we measured it, but that might make all the difference to get above a soundbar. You’ll be getting HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG alongside HDMI eARC instead of just ARC; plus, you’ll get the Google TV platform and virtual assistant support, too. All told, this is about what you’d expect from a relatively basic, modern 4K TV in 2023, but you might not expect the 4-Series’ pricing. There’s also Dolby Vision ‘game’, which works in a slightly different way, the TV set communicating with the game console, communicating its available specs then getting just pre-processed output from the console, thereby minimising latency through the TV. There’s extensive gaming support on this TV.

Every Note is a Work of Art

There’s not much you won’t find. There are no app gaps from any of the top tier services, with Dolby Vision and 4K support on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV. Better still, you’ll even get to use the pay-as-you-go Sky Store – not an app you’ll find on many smart TVs or media streamers – which plays host to a number of exclusive HBO shows as well as Sky’s own programming.
