In 1972 the company again expanded its product line with the introduction of non-wool garments for men and women. Many customers had a desire for the classic Pendleton style for 'year round wear, but wanted lighter clothing for spring and summer wear. Again the new line was a major success. Under sponsorship of the New York-based Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Reverend Jason Lee (1803-1845) established his first mission in 1834 in the homeland of the Kalapuya, on the lowlands (Mission Bottom) adjacent to the Willamette River north of present-day Salem. Through successive missionary reinforcements, the Willamette station became the central operation to several satellite stations throughout the region.

Called Olio Nuovo, the oil is produced from a blend of five olive varieties — Arbequina, Grappolo, Lucca, Manzanillo, and Mission — that are harvested on the grounds of the historic Santa Inés Mission Mills. The name “Olio Nuovo,” or “new oil,” reflects that freshness, which can be tried every fall when the oil is released for sale. The place-name Misson is possibly a derivative of an Old English word, mos, 'moss, marsh, bog', hence 'mossy or marshy place'. Alternatively the name may contain Old Norse mysni, 'a water-plant’, perhaps the water-arum. [6] The full council had serious concerns about the financial obligations for restoring both houses and did not approve the placement of the historical buildings in either Bush’s Pasture Park or Marion Square Park.
