About this deal

The Pacific Image PrimeFilm XE 35mm Film and Slide Scanner offers a cost-effective solution for film enthusiasts looking to digitize their 35mm film and slides. With its ease of use, versatile film format support, and high optical resolution, it provides excellent value for users seeking a straightforward and reliable scanning experience. Verdict Pacific Image PrimeFilm XA = Reflecta RPS 10M Primefilm scanner gets a solid “F” grade for durability Let’s take a look at a few of the frequently asked questions shoppers have when considering a new scanner. Can you scan a negative with a scanner? Overall, it’s another great scanner that you can consider if scan quality is more important to you than speed and convenience. Why We Chose This Scanner

In our tests, prescanning individual slides took 29 to 54 seconds. Scanning a single image at the default 1,800 ppi—suitable for printing at 8 by 10 inches—took 33 to 42 seconds. With Digital ICE, the scan took about 2 minutes 20 seconds. After two years, my PrimeFilm scanner is starting to show wear. There are times when it would refuse to work, and I’d have to power it off and wait a few minutes. Its film transport started acting strange, and it makes strange noises. Still, there are no effects on image quality, so I plan to use it until it stops completely.I'm considering an Epson Perfection V850 Pro Scanner or perhaps a dedicated one like the Pacific Image Prime Film XAs super edition Film Scanner. You’ll also find it easy to enhance your precious memories with the OpticFilm 8200i SE. SilverFast software boasts intelligent functions for smoother adjustments and superb results every time. The software has a WorkflowPilot feature to give you a step-by-step guide on all scanning processes. You’ll enjoy smooth scanning as SilverFast features multi-tasking capabilities and 64-bit support. Why We Chose This Scanner I have a CoolScan V on loan, and own a Reflecta ProScan 7200 (in the meantime replaced with a newer model which is still available new today; in the US the brand name is Pacific Images), so I have been able to compare them using the exact same slides and negatives, using VueScan to operate both. Optimal dynamic range - Multipass Xposure technology scans each frame or slide multipletimes to enhance the detail of dark area withoutsacrificing the bright area. The V850 Pro also has a ReadyScan LED light source for greater productivity in scanning your images. ReadyScan allows the device to start scanning after less than a second so that you can produce digital prints faster. A4 scanning takes around 12 seconds, while 35mm negative scanning is almost a minute long (at 4800 dpi).

Overall, this isn't a bad effort for a budget price scanner, with the high resolution providing a good amount of detail. The image is passable, but skin tones are slightly dull and under-saturated. More disturbing is the noise shown in the next comparison images below. Does your film archive need robust dust/scratch removal tools? Research the scanner to see if it comes with a robust dust/scratch removal tool. Dynamic Range Pacific Image Electronics might not be a familiar name to many over here in the UK. Their PrimeFilm 3600 Pro we're reviewing here is placed at the top of their range of film scanners. It is also, as far as we can tell identical to the Microtek 3600, other than a different colour exterior. The PrimeFilm 3650u lens does not deliver anywhere near the resolution of a top scanner lens like an Scanner Nikkor ED or a Minolta Elite 5400 lens but if your budget is limited, you can live with the limited 1 - 1.5x range, and you don't need an iris, it would be hard to beat the PrimeFilm 3650u lens, it really is an excellent buy.On the left is the PF 3600 PRO scan and on the right, the Minolta Scan Dual III scan of the same slide. Whilst the PF 3600 PRO features a higher resolution on paper, the Minolta shows none of the appalling image noise and also has better colour definition. Infrared dust and scratch removal - Magic Touch technology eliminates flaws in film, such as dust or scratches, in the final image scan CineStill 800T with Minolta TC-1, scanned with PrimeFilm XA (digital negative).
