About this deal

Netgem also acts as a central hub for subscription services like Prime Video and BT Sport, though these must be paid for separately.

I could use bluetooth directly to the soundbar but then the other HDMI inputs use the optical output. The BBC has been running Ultra HD “trials” for the past several years, with some shows being added – but those are few and far between. One thing Netgem excels in is its setup process, which takes you quietly and efficiently through connecting to a wired or wireless network and entering a PIN code for parental controls. The Netbox supports 4K and HDR (and on the sound front – Dolby Atmos) – and it certainly delivers excellent picture quality on the supported services. Credit, too, for making smartphone pairing part of the setup routine, so that the accompanying app’s all ready to use by the time you’re watching telly. You can still access each app and streaming service directly – but that option is a bit hidden, compared to those personalised recommendations). Netgem has been on the streaming box scene for a little while now, and its latest streaming box, the Netbox 4K, and its accompanying 4K-enabled subscription service hope to make streaming accessible for everyone. Such a move wasn’t entirely unexpected, as the ISP has recently been rolling back their interest in existing Pay TV products ( here). Once you have some programmes recorded, you can find them in the “Recordings” section on the main menu, where you can also manage and delete stuff you already watched. I have solved the issue by reversing the procedure and using the TV remote to control the Netgem box.

tv, we are pleased to bring together the best of Pay-TV with the best of Free-TV - delivering the greatest value content across all consumer segments," said Sylvain Thevenot, Managing Director of netgem. And to make things even more confusing, the Netgem service comes in two flavours: The Premium Addon: What Is Netgem. The only storage devices I had on hand were an 128GB memory stick, which worked fine, and a 2TB HDD which did not. Can't see the point in it, any 4K TV offers more apps and if you want to record from Freeview bung a usb drive or portable HDD in a USB socket on the TV. I've been happy with TT to date and if there was a degree of certainty I could survive with my DN372 in the meantime.

If I was planning to use the Netbox 4K every day, I’d be looking to replace this with a compatible universal remote. However it keeps missing the start (up to 5 minutes) of programmes it records and getting help is impossible. Add in the on-demand apps (like BBC iPlayer, All 4, ITV Hub etc) and get a replacement satellite box that added the recording facility. He has seen and covered just about every console, mobile phone, gadget and home cinema device launched in the last 35+ years. Prior to Pocket-lint, Rik worked on and edited Home Cinema Choice and various videogames magazines, such as Your Commodore and Amstrad Computer User. When we tried out its predecessor, the Netbox HD, we were impressed with the amount of services (including live TV) we could access through one system, but found the user interface to be too laggy to recommend. Do you know if there are any plans to offer the TV Hub to all subscribers in the not too distant future?
